Inspiration: Tuesday Morning Sketches #545 + In(k)spire Me #416
This is different from my usual style - less cutesy, more flowery and pastely, but I'm really happy with where I landed. The starting point was simple: I had seen Stampin' Up! show how to ink the new foiled papers offered as a Sale-A-Bration freebie using sponge daubers and I loved the soft resulting look, so I handcut some of the flowers out and started inking them. I quickly realized those flowers are really big! It just happens that this week's Tuesday Morning Sketches call for a 4" x 8-1/2" card. I was hoping I'd have time to play as I love making long tall cards, and I realized that the flowers would be a great size for it. I was also inspired by the soft colour combo from In(k)spire Me.
I made my card base out of Blushing Bride cardstock and I wanted to use embossed Crumb Cake cardstock underneath the flowers to make the soft colours stand out. My last order included the Parisian Flourish 3D embossing folder, which was perfect to go with my design. I initially thought the design was only flourishes, but now that I have it in hand, I realized that it incorporates a few flowers in there. (I shouldn't be surprised - Stampin' Up! loves to includes flowers in everything.) I used my dauber to ink the raised edges of the design with Crumb Cake ink, and I added ribbon from the Magnolia Lane pack on each side.
Initially, I tried adding a blue stripe in the middle to mimick the sketch closely. I didn't like the result, though, as the flowers looked better on the Crumb Cake directly. I then decided I was going to use the Praiseworthy Prose stamp set from my sentiment (I love this one - I'm SO happy it was translated to French!) I stamped it tone on tone on Highland Heather cardstock and I was going to cut it to size, but I decided I liked having the stripe go from edge to the other. It's also reminiscent of the sketch, if the middle strip is simply dropped. I die-cut foliage out of blue and purple cardstock using the Poppy Moments dies and I sprinkled pearls around the card for added elegance.
I used my Envelope Punch Board to make a matching envelope out of the same foiled patterned paper, and I added an address block die-cut out of Seaside Spray cardstock using the Stitched So Sweetly dies. Those stitched scalloped rectangles are really beautiful. The leag stamped on this piece and on the card base come from the Painted Poppies stamp set.
