Inspiration: Simon Says Stamp Monday (Tag It!)
Those Dancin' Gingerbread are arguable one of the cutest die set Spellbinders has ever designed. Their adorable smiley faces are just super sweet. I decided to make two Christmas tags with them, which I am planning to keep aside for my niece's gifts. I used the moving piece, so their little bodies are swinging back and forth, which I expect my niece to enjoy.
The gingerbread characters were quite easy to put together, even with the small icing details. I used white velvet paper for the white accents, which adds a nice texture to the finished pieces. I inked the edges of the Crumb Cake and Real Red cardstock pieces to give them dimension. Interestingly, the die set does not really provide specific pieces for the eyes and cheeks. I've seen companies (like Lawn Fawn) that include dies that help you fill in the space without having cardstock poking behind the other elements. This is not the case here, so you have to be strategic when you are filling in the cheeks, then the mouth and eyes. This time, I glued colored cardstock behind the face. Next time, I will try adding cardstock behind to fill the space behind the holes and then dropping the pieces in to paper piece the face to see which looks I like best.
I was watching a Tim Holtz Live while crafting and he was talking about dyeing clear pastes with reinkers, so it inspired me to tint his Icicle Crackle paste with red reinker. I was worried that using just a drop would result in pink paste, so I added a couple more drops. I got a really nice rich red, but I wonder if the glassy effect would have been more obvious if my paste has not been tinted as heavily. It still gives a nice shiny and raised texture to the words. I picked a plaid red patterned paper from my scrap bin for the tag background. The paper was so old that it was one-sided and it had company information printed on the back, so I made sure to back the paper with kraft cardstock before die-cutting the tag so that I have a neutral background to write on when I use the tags.
At the top, I added large white eyelets and threaded some clear tinsel trim and hemp cord. I added white and red sequins to fill in the space as well.
