Inspiration: Tic Tac Toe #163 (Bird + Ribbon + Texture)
I liked the idea of doing a pocket for this week's card, so I pulled the Scalloped Pocket die from Fun Stampers Journey I got on clearance last year and paired it with the Spring Farmhouse 6" x 8" paper pad.
I die-cut the pocket out of striped/floral paper. I found a bird and nest image I liked on a cut-apart sheet and die-cut it out with a stitched square from the Stitched Shapes set. It was hanging over the edge of the pocket quite a bit, so I added a strip of black gingham paper underneath the scalloped edge before closing the pocket. I put a strip of pink gingham on the front and wrapped Soft Succulent open weave ribbon on the front, topped with a soft yellow button.
For the insert, I went to my trusty Elizabeth Craft Designs Planner Essentials die collection to find a tag that was the right size. I found something even better, though: the Bonjour Fold Out. which creates a cute little folder that was just the right size for the pocket and that added so much personality.
I used the pink gingham paper again. It has a bird and bird nest pattern on the back, but I ran into the problem that I wanted the tab to be placed at the top of the pocket, not hidden inside, and if I did that, the bird pattern was upside down. So I cut the full side of the folder out of polka dot paper and lined the inside so it would be the pattern showing through the hole. Then I repeated the same step out of vellum and filed the hole with it for a softer look. The folder was a little plain still, so I pulled the Correspondence stamp set from Tim Holtz and added words in black and in grey inks, with the postmark in Blushing Bride ink. I got the idea to stamp the number in VersaMark on the vellum and emboss it with white powder. LOVE the look! Then I fussy cut a few flowers from the patterns paper and I added the small one to the mini folder and the large one to the back of the pocket. I embellished the flowers with satin gold and champagne pearls and black gems. I also added Glossy Accents to the center of the large flower.
I'm super happy with how this pocket turned out. I made a matching envelope using the Mini Slimline Envelope die from Simon Says Stamp. It's meant to accommodate card that measure 6½" x 3½", which is my favorite slimline format to make. Up until now, I had used my Envelope Punch Board to make slimline envelopes and while it works, it makes this weird format where the flaps are too long for the height of the envelope and you have to cut them off. This die makes for a neater result and ends up using less paper, I believe.
