Inspiration: Lasting Memory Layout Challenge #598 (Something New)
On today's layout, I used the Howdy! collection from Simple Stories. I purchased it when it came out last year, but had not used it yet. I was totally in love with the look of the collection but realized when I tried to use it that it's very heavily themed (cowboy and far west). Yesterday, right before I went to bed, I realized that I could possibly use the sheriff images to go with the picture of the last escape room we did, which was prison-themed. The rooms that we have done at Échappe-toi have been hit and miss, but we really enjoyed this one and got it done in our best time yet.
I drew inspiration from a Page Maps sketch (February 2018) but quickly departed from it once the frame was in place, so that I could work with the elements I wanted to include on the layout. I liked the torn edges from the sketch, so I started by using the map as the center block, tearing pattern paper strips for the top and bottom and inking the edges with Soft Suede ink. I had quite a bit of journaling, so I typed it and printed it on Very Vanilla cardstock, then inked the edges again. I liked the "wanted" theme since my page was about a prison escape, so I used the Wanted poster and "most wanted" banner from the Journal Bits pack. I layered the "This ain't my first rodeo!" die-cut as well, since we've done 22 escape rooms so far, and even though I was thinking of adding the sheriff critter, I decided I liked the bandit better. I picked a tag from the cut-apart sheet and layered it under at an angle to give the piece more visual weight.
I cut my title with the Handmade Alphabet Bigz die from Tim Holtz (Sizzix). I was planning to add ink or patterned paper on top, but the kraft chipboard looked really good against the map so I didn't alter it. Initially, I had put the title on top of the picture and it was the exact same width, which I liked, but then I spotted the town buildings sticker and really wanted to include it, so I moved the letters across two rows, and added the red banner die-cut under the first word to anchor it. I placed the Sheriff die-cut at the top, over the torn papers. I also added horseshoes on the left side, and put rustic metallic adhesive-backed dots under each to make it look like they are hanging on nails.
Then I did the finishing with various embellishments. I included the cord stickers from the cardstock sticker sheet to fill in the gap at the bottom of the wanted poster and repeated the other cord image in the other picture corner. I found metal stars in the Urban Underground embellishments pack, that I added on the top band, and little red stars from Queen & Co that I added to the poster. I have those Designer Elements from Stampin' Up! that reminds of jeans rivets, but the colours were way too shiny - but I realized that I could probably use my Distress crayons to change the finish and it worked like a charm! I added it to the red tag and slipped a flower sticker underneath. I found a really old Making Memories brad that had the perfect texture to add to the title banner.
