Inspiration: March 2022 Page Maps Sletch + Simon Says Stamp Wednesday (Add a die-cut) + Lasting Memory Layout Challenge #588 (Love Your Stash - Stickers)
This page started very differently than how I usually scrapbook. I always pick pictures and select papers for them or pick papers and find pictures that work with them. This time around, I saw one of the Page Maps sketches, on which their patterned paper had rainbows, and it reminded me of the Magical Forest collection. I pulled it out and while I had no clue what I would use this page for, I actually started putting together a base page inspired by the sketch, thinking I could do the basic parts and find pictures for it later.
I pulled out the Rainbow Whimsy die from My Favorite Things, which was perfect for the sketch, and I cut each section in colours that matched the ones on the patterned paper. I needed clouds, so I pulled out the Puffy Clouds dies, also from MFT, and cut them out of Pearlescent Vellum from Lawn Fawn (a favorite).
I added copper washi tape between the two papers on my background page, layered the pink paper, added a strip of the blue polka dot paper and cut a border similar to the one on the sketch using an old beloved Bigz XL die, Tasteful Trims (from Stampin' Up! and long retired). I added Teal Ocean pearls from Studio Katia on the border.
At that point, I started going through my pictures to see if something would be catching my eye. I considered a few selfies with my nieces, but when I found the pictures taken of my sister when she was pregnant with her second baby, I realized they would fit the papers well and that my sister and I are actually wearing shirts in colours that match the papers, so I decided I would be scrapping those. It should be noted that the original sketch was for a 8½" x 11" page, so I stretched it out to turn it into a full 12" x 12" page. I matted the three pictures in matching cardstock colours to make them stand out more and add visual weight.
I added puffy stickers and clear stickers from the Magical Forest collection, and I handwrote my journaling, then stamped the date. The title was created with two different alphabet sticker collections and I used a small alphabet die for the upperscript E.
I don't usually like the results with simpler pages, but I have to say, it feels like this one works and is well balanced, and the colours are really pleasing.
