Inspiration: December 2021 Page Maps sketch + Festive Friday #103
1) Baked Goods (the cake)
2) Stripes
3) Texture (textured cardstock as page base)
I have been wanting to use the Hooray! collection from Crate Paper for a long time and I finally found a birthday picture that I wanted to scrapbook and pair with it. For her fifth birthday, my niece wanted a Moana-themed party, so you can see her here with the intricate birthday cake my sister had made for her.
I started by doing the ink smooshing technique on a white cardstock piece using an acetate. Because I hadn't applied gesso to the cardstock, the result was a little more blotchy than I would have liked, but with all the layering that I did, you don't really see it a ton once the page is assembled anyway.
I had initially done a long patterned paper panel at the right of the page like on the sketch, but it didn't look as good as when I had just my paper strip, so I edited this piece out of my design. I decided to roll the top of the paper strips to add texture and take advantage of the double-sided paper. I used the October calendar cut-apart in the bottom left corner and I layered another calendar piece, using the backside pattern, to break up the white a bit. I circle the birthday date on the calendar with a gold marker and I used a dotted rectangle die to cut the calendar out. I used the llama chipboard and a few cardstock stickers to create a cluster. I also added a chipboard tag in the top left corner, embellished with a cardstock heart sticker, ribbon and a gem.
I drew journaling lines and added my handwritten journaling on the right side and my date on a little sticker note. I glued white pompom trim at the bottom of my picture and added holographic sequins around the page this finish it off.

Absolutely adorable, Cindy! This is such a wonderful layout. All of the details are fabulous! Rolling the tops of the paper strips adds so much dimension. The chipboard llama is SO cute, and caught my eye right away. What a great way to commemorate your niece's birthday! Thank you for sharing at Festive Friday this week!
