Inspiration: Page Maps January 2022 Sketch + Lasting Memory Layout challenge #580 (Add a pocket)
Now that I'm out of the Christmas crafting, I want to catch up on scrapbooking so I dug through my printed pictures to decide what to work on next. I spotted the pictures from our outing at the Botanical Garden in Montreal from five years ago and I realized they would pair very nicely with the Simple Vintage Garden District papers from Simple Stories. I have to say that considering that Simple Stories was mostly doing cutesy papers initially, they have really hit a home run with with the collections they released when they decided to add vintage style to their lines. That being said, experience has taught me that I don't have the easiest time using vintage paper lines, so when this one came out, I carefully picked a few of my favorite sheets from it instead of the whole pack. What appealed to me the most from this collection was the beautiful colour scheme - the pink, peach, buttery yellow and teal combo is right up my alley.
For this page, I pulled out the flower and butterfly page. I cut half an inch off in both direction and matted the paper on the teal paper from the Basics Kit. Because I wanted the paper to remain visible, I did two things: I rearrange the elements of the sketch so that I would still keep the long envelope idea, but I superposed my main picture over it. I also used a craft knife to cut out of the butterfly wings and flowers so that I could tuck my pictures under those elements. The sketch has a paper block, which I got inspired to use a gold Design acetate for. I was still losing one of the butterflies under it, so I cut it out of the paper with the craft knife and layered it over the whole it created using dimensional adhesive. I fussy cut a few elements from the cut-apart sheet and the floral patterned paper and created embellishments this way.
The title and date were created with tile alphabet stickers and Thickers. The pink on pink alphabet tiles from Elle's Studio look really good paired with this collection and the pack has enough vowels that I wasn't hesitant to sacrifice 3 E's on a single title. I created an insert for the envelope by cutting a long 2-inch-wide strip of pale yellow paper from the Basics Kit and I punched the top with a Label Topper punch from Stampin' Up! I added peach seam binding at the top, tied with pink thick baker's twine. I added gold to the edges with a Krylon gold paint pen. I added a few gems and an orange bead that was lying on my desk to embellish the layout.
