Inspiration: TGIF Challenge #330
I still have not ordered anything from Stampin' Up!'s holidays minicatalogue, but I liked the idea of picking a sample from the minicatalogue to draw inspiration from. The sample from page 20 with the vertical sentiment caught my eye. I've been working with Simple Stories' Jingle All the Way collection all week and I noticed that one of the cut-aparts had nice retro lettering on it that could easily be fussy cut so that became the starting point of the card. I cut out the letters, laid them over vellum to figure out how tall the word Merry would be and then I selected my card size based off of that (3½" x 7½").
I was originally planning to use the poinsettias from the foam stickers, but they would probably have overwhelmed the design, so I ended up using the two sprigs that were cut out of the same image, and a poinsettia image I had previously fussy cut from patterned paper and left on my desk. I matted the vellum with the soft aqua patterned paper and picked a nice polka dot dark green for the background. I looked for an English sentiment to stamp repeatedly on the background as in the sample and used Season's Greetings from Stylish Christmas, as it has a retro font that matched the handcut font nicely.
To complete the sentiment, I stamped the "merry Christmas y'all" sentiment from my Cozy with You stamp set and bubble cut the word Christmas to add with Mini Stampin' Dimensionals on my card. I filled in the empty space with enamel dots, pearls and crystals. I also added a linen thread bow as per the original sample. I was liking the result but finding the card a little bland still, so I ended up reaching for my Distress Mica flakes to add something in the corners, keeping with the retro look.
I made a matching envelope out of patterned paper to match the envelope size, using one of the tag cut-apart for the address block.
