Happy Wear Red Day!
A few months ago, Spellbinders had a sale on their clearance items, which included a die set I've wanted for a long time, so I decided to place an order. The package took ridiculously long to get to me, but it finally arrived this week. When pulling things out of the box, I realized that the This Time Around Cake & Treat Box die is oversized and will not fit in my regular Big Shot. My bad, I should have paid more attention to the description. Ironically, I had passed on the popcorn box die because I realized it was too big for my machine, but I did not pick up on the fact that this box die was too.
I was stll curious to see how the box would look assembled, so I improvised. I pulled out an acetate sheet, traced the die shapes on it with a Sharpie and cut the template out. I then traced it again on patterned paper and fussy cut it out. I used circle dies from my stash to make the top and bottom and voilà! It's a pretty nice size: 3 inches in diameter and 2-3/4" high. I decorated the edge with rhinestone stickers from the dollar store and the top with one of the cardstock stickers from the Sweet Talk collection to match the patterned papers. From my Spellbinders order, I also have some Love Filled faceted hearts, which I used to embellish the box as well.
I made a second box using the Sweet Talk collection again, so I will have one for each of my nieces to gift to on Valentine's Day. I made a mistake on the second box - I traced my template on the back of the patterned paper I wanted to use, placing the stripes running vertically, but I forgot that the other side had hearts on it and when I turned the paper around, I found out the hearts were going sideways! I debated for a minute whether to redo a new piece and I decided it still looked cute, so I kept it as is. Making a mental note for future boxes, though...
