Inspiration: Global Design Project #269 + Freshly Made Sketch #464
I love everything cutesy, so the owl set from the August-December Mini-catalogue really appealed to me. I got the idea to add the Birch background stamp in Smoky Slate ink on a grey card base since the owls are on a branch, and to combine them with the classic colour combo from this week's Global Design Project challenge. I used my Buffalo Check background stamp on the Just Jade cardstock and die-cut it with the Stitched Shapes dies. It felt a little bare, so I added a scalloped square die-cut out of Garden Green cardstock underneath and it added just the right touch. I was hesitating between two ribbons, so I added the white polka dot tulle on the first card and the Mint Macaron basket weave ribbon on the second card.
I stamped the owls in Tuxedo Black ink on white cardstock, colored them with the Stampin' Blends markers and die-cut the image using the matching dies. I then die-cut Real Red cardstock using the tags die from the same set, stamped the owls again in red ink so that I would have the background image, and I popped the colored images over it using Stampin' Dimensionals.
I stamped a sentiment from the set on a strip of white cardstock in green ink, cut the edge at an angle and I added a heart charm from the Playful Pets trinkets. Don't forget the little hearts can go on any project, even though they come from a pet-themed collection. I tied a piece of white twine on the trinket for added texture.
This is much simpler than my usual creations, but I love the result. There's an elegant simplicity to it. The Birch and Buffalo Check are is also two of my favorite backgrounds we've had in recent years. They are classic and very versatile.
