The starting point of my latest card was a piece of Irresistibly Yours papers from Stampin' Up! (from a past SAB offering) that are all white with clear-embossed patterns. I pulled those out with another project in mind, but when I saw the diagonal stripes I thought it'd work great with red ink for Christmas projects. Those papers have gotten a new wind with the purchase of the Distress Oxide inks, which have renewed my love of inking. I didn't know what I'd use the papers on initially, but I knew that picking a cherry red color would be a safe bet, so I pulled out Barn Door and inked the whole piece without cutting it to size. That gave me enough for a card background and once the card was done, I decided to make a tag. I used the same paper collection as on the card, namely the new Christmas Magic line from Doodlebug Design, but I avoided the pinks and yellows and stuck to red and green when picking papers. I started with the striped tag, pulled out the Santa's Sweets stamp set and picked the fruitcake as my main image. I colored it with Polychromos pencils, popped it on dimensionals and I decided to make the bottom part of the tag a pocket, using thin 1/8" adhesive strip to keel the paper in place. I then used my trusty Dotted Scalloped Rectangle dies from Elizabeth Designs to make an insert. I went looking at my sentiment list to find a "to: from:" stamp. Most of them are on the same stamp ad placed much too close together (I should probably snip the photopolymer ones apart, too) but I did find one in one of my set that was already two separate words. This allowed me to space them better, and the cutesy font works well with the Doodlebug look.
I then decided that before threading my silver tinsel, I could die-cut a tag in the next size up and layer the two together for added interest. I simply used the leftover die-cut border piece at the bottom of the second tag and added a piece of white sequin trim at the seam. I love how that one turned out.
