Inspiration: December 2020 Page Maps Sketch
Every year, I barely do any scrapbooking during the fall and beginning of winter because I get so invested in my Christmas card production. This year was no exception, and so I've been getting back to making pages during the holidays downtime. This page came together so easily, I wish it always went that smoothly. I had a few sheets from the beautiful Make a Wish collection from Cocoa Vanilla and some pictures from my niece's 2-year-old birthday party from last year. I picked three vertical pictures that I could cut down to size, handcut the big cake image from the cut-apart sheet to use as an embellishment and cut the polka dot paper to size. I wanted to try making a mixed media background, so I smooshed a piece of acetate of my Soft Sky ink pad, spritzed it and smooshed it on a piece of white textured cardstock. I then added speckles with Dapper Denim ink flicked from the edge of a clear block. I'm not pro at mixed media, but I've been catching techniques here and there in process videos that made me realize that some techniques are actually simpler than I would have assumed, so I'm having fun trying some of them out. Here, it turned out exactly like I wanted, so that made me happy!
The cut-apart sheet had a numbered strip on it, which I used as part of my design and title. I pulled out some old metal-rimmed tags that date back to my scrapbooking debut, I took the cardstock out and sew the metal rim in place around the number 2. I finished the title with pink Little Letters stickers. For the date, I tested out a couple of sticker collections before finding a look I was happy with. I initially added the date 2019 to the layout because I thought the party was last year, but then I realized that it wasn't, it was actually in January of 2020, so I didn't have repeating stickers and had to improvise, so it became -1-'20 instead. I love Thickers, but using the packs past the mid-point can be challenging. I was out of zeros here, so I cut an 8 in half to get a zero out of it. To finish the layout, I went through my embellishment bin and added a few items that caught my eye here and there for added interest.
