Inspiration: Card Maps July 2018 Sketch + Hand Stamped Sentiments #351
I'm still working on my holiday cards that will be sent to a Seniors Center. I was going through my stash, having trouble to find an idea that led to something, and I finally caught a spark of inspiration when I pulled out Carta Bella's Christmas collection from 2018. I am not shying away from doing cutesy, but I do have an inkling that the vintage and retro images might appeal to the seniors, so I am trying to pull out my collections that have that vibe. I remember that two years ago, my local store was hit by a wave of gorgeous Christmas collections that I couldn't resist and I had so much new stuff that I struggled to use it all. This is unfortunately one of the collections that got neglected. I find it absolutely gorgeous, so I was happy to revisit it. I realized that the colors might suit Tim Holtz's Christmas milk caps, so I pulled them out and sure enough, it made for the perfect embellishment. I really loved the tag cut-apart sheet, so it became the starting point for this card.
I extended the tag by adding a piece of striped cardstock at the end, which I punched with a lacy border punch. I added vanilla lace trim between the two pieces. For the sentiment, I pulled a long narrow sentiment from the Merry Mistletoe stamp set. I have white embossing powder bought years ago that yellowed over time. While I was irked by it initially, it actually ended up working in my favour because look how great it works here with the vanilla-based papers! It fit perfectly.
I added Cherry Cobbler cotton twine to the top of the tag and tied two Cherry Cobbler mini jingle bells with Altenew Antique Gold metallic thread (couldn't resist - I'm on a mini-jingle bells kick this year!). I added red pearls over the berries from the image, black sequins on my left-side tiny banners and Vanilla Cream sequins on the sentiment and bottom of the tag.
The sketch had stitching in the center, so I cracked into my Roughly Sewn rub-ons from 49 and Market. Playing with those reminded me I've missed rub-ons, especially stitching ones. Since craft is a cycle and everything circle back in, it's be nice to have those make a comeback in the near-future. Seems like the industry only has to give us time to miss something and when they're bringing it back, we're discovering it all over again.
For the envelope, I picked a black one, which I embellished with a strip of paper and another tag. If I was using the envelope to mail the card out, I would have needed to allow for more room, but because the cards will be hand-delivered, I had a little bit more leeway with my design. I also used another tag for my signature on the back of the card. Some of the tags on the paper are incomplete, so I used one of those and glued it straight on the edge of the card.
