I got into Halloween packaging this week and pulled out my punch boards to do so. I had already used the Bag one earlier, so I decided to use the Box one today. I purchased the Hey Pumpkin 6 x 8 papers and matching Ephemera pieces at my local store last year, but it came in pretty late in the season so it sat untouched in my stash until today. I love this collection, the cute patterns and the colours. The fact that I only have 6 x 8 paper does limit possibilities, but by using grey cardstock for the base of the box, I was able to simply layer four patterns on each box side and add a piece of patterned paper to the bottom as well. I matted them all with black foil paper, previously sold by Stampin' Up!. For the top of the box, I looked at the Ephemera pack to see what could work. The pieces are pretty big, better suited for scrapbooking, but the little witch did catch my eye and I loved how she looked on the top of the box with the Hocus Pocus sign underneath. I also used the bat die-cut on one side. It is larger than the box, but I don't mind it. The orange sequin also comes from the ephemera pack.
The punch board allows you to punch slits to close the box. I've always struggled with using this. It takes a lot of effort and you often bend the cardstock when you try to get it done. While I did punch the slits, I was trying to figure out how I could use the embellishments I liked on the top and still have the possibilité to hook and unhook the slits easily. In the end, I decided to go with a good ol' ribbon bow instead. I tied the ribbon where I wanted it and then added the embellishments with black Stampin' Dimensionals on top to secure the ribbon as well. It's something I've heard many times when giving treat boxes to colleagues: "It's so pretty, I don't even want to open it and mess it up." I've always made sure that the candy can be accessed while keeping the packaging intact. This way, people can still enjoy the packaging as decoration on their desk for a little while during the Holiday period. This box is really simple, but I love how it turned out.
