Inspiration: Inspired By #150 ("Deer" Santa)
I was really excited about this new stamp set from Avery Elle. I've loved the whole Peek-a-Boo series, but this is probably my favorite of the bunch! I've always had a soft spot for trains and this one is particularly cute. Love the deer image as well! I sat down to colour today and I picked my colour scheme based on the Jingle All the Way paper pack from My Mind's Eye. I've put aside my Christmas paper collections and I try to rotate what I'm using. Because Christmas is my favorite occasion to craft for, I have quite the extensive collection of crafty supplies so in order to get them used, I had to get organized, so the papers have all been placed together and whenever I'm ready to work on something new, I go through the pile to see what catches my eye.
Despite the paper being the inspiration behind the card, you don't see a lot of patterns on the card. I used the falling snow pattern for my background and I actually added sparkly falling snow to it using my Falling Snow stencil and White Glitz glitter gel (which I love before it is pure white). I also added sparkly snow using Dazzling Diamonds glimmer paper and the Slimline Stitched Hillside Borders dies from Lawn Fawn to ground my images. Adding the snow also made it possible to place the Christmas tree higher on the card and not have it float in the air. I used the plaid paper for the background and added everything to a pink card base.
The images were colored with Copic markers and Gansai Tambi watercolors for the gold accents. I added gold-embossed snowflakes on the train and the wagon. I used a gold paint pen to add detailing to the gift, train, wagon and deer's hat. I dotted the snowflakes with gold gems and the wheels with red gems. The card was already pretty full so I didn't know where I could add a sentiment, and then I thought to make a tab, using my beloved Planner Essentials dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs. I stamped "Merry Christmas" in VersaMark and embossed it in dark green powder to make it stand out.
I made a matching envelope using the striped paper from the collection. My finished card measures 6½" x 3½". I love this smaller size of slimline cards, which I've been making for years as Stampin' Up! used to carry envelopes for 6½" x 3-1/4" cards and I had been making them ever since.
I'm thinking of sending this card to my friend Roxane. She posted something on Facebook recently about life being a train and various people travel on this train with you for different amount of times. I think it'd be a nice tie-in to send her this card and mention that we're still traveling on this life train alongside one another even after all of these years. We've been friends since high school (and knew each other in grade school as well), so it's been a while.
