I wanted to use felt to make a little treat pocket of some sort and I remembered I had pulled out the Stitched Pumpkin Frame and Outside In Stitched Pumpkin dies from Lawn Fawn, which would be the perfect shape and size to do just that. I die-cut the full pumpkin twice and the pumpkin frame once to layer over the front. I handstitched around the pieces using needlepoint floss in matching colour. I then die-cut the stem and leaf from brown and green felt, and added stitching as well.
I was tried adding stitching to the eyes and mouth of the jack-o-lantern, but I was not liking the look so I pulled the stitching out. I had initially planned to stitch the pocket together, but I realized I would have a hard time having stitching all around the pumpkin frame and not going over the same sections twice if I was stitching the pocket together and leaving the top open. In the end, I decided to do the decorative stitching first and to hot glue the felt together to assemble the pocket and to add the face on the front.
Tip: Make sure you glue your stem to the back of the front piece of your pocket so that it is not hidden when you slip your candy inside!
The stitching took a little while but all in all, this was still a fairly quick project. If you wanted to mass produce, you could skip the stitching and stick to die-cutting and gluing together and you could get a bunch of pockets in no time. I found the felt sheets at my dollar store and they were something like 45 cents each, so this makes for a very inexpensive project.
