Inspiration: Simon Says Stamp Wednesday (No Stamps Allowed)
On a whim, I decided to put together the Fireside dies from Tim Holtz. I went looking through my scraps (which are organized in plastic drawers by colors) and when I went through the browns, I found a scrap with wooden texture on it, which was perfect for my base. I hadn't decided on a specific color scheme for my card, so I randomly went through scraps and used what was jumping out at me.I decided the Basic Grey paper I had used on the right stocking looked like wallpaper, so I made it my background piece. Based on the size of the assembled fireplace, I decided to make a 5-1/4" x 5-1/4" square card.
For a second there, I was confused as to what to add to the card. I tried out Christmas paper dolls, but the photorealistic look wasn't working with the whimsical look of the fireplace. I remembered I had some retro-looking sentiments in other Tim Holtz die sets, so I went digging through them and found a Merry Christmas that was the perfect size to fit on my card in the Home for the Holidays set (the one with the retro car). As I was looking through the dies, the boxes from the Santa's Helper set caught my eye and I decided it could fill the empty space by the fireside nicely. I reused the same paper scraps to stick to the colour scheme and consistency.
The interior of the fireplace was filled with a piece of white cardstock that was colored with Spice Marmalade, Wild Honey and Rusty Hinge Distress Oxide ink. I used my Midas Touch Aqua Shimmer brush to add speckles around the fire and I love how it looks like the fire is crackling. I added it at the end and it really made the fireplace come alive. The little guard was die-cut out of silver foil paper, as was the sentiment.
Finally, I found a piece of paper big enough to make an envelope and used additional scraps to decorate it to match.
