Inspiration: Sunday Stamps #226 + The Paper Players #482
The flower challenge from the Paper Players was inspiring me to pull out the big flower from the Timeless Tropical stamp set. The Sunday Stamps sketch was also perfect for it, so I stamped the flower and leaf on watercolor paper and I used my Aqua Painter brush and various shades of inks to color both images. I added white dots in the center of the flower with a gel pen. I then used the matching dies to cut them out and add them flat to the card. For the ribbon, I used Roccoco Rose gathered ribbon. Doesn't it work great with those papers? There's something about the colour that reminds me of wicker basket and furniture.
For the sentiment, I used one from the same stamp set that says "May your birthday be memorable." The trick to handcut the script font word definitely comes from the Stampin' Up! catalogues, as I've seen their designers use this trick in many different samples. It's a great way to not only bring attention to the main word, but also to get two different colours on a sentiment without using markers to ink it. I added two peacock-colored rhinestones on each side of the sentiment block. I was pondering whether to add a bit of foliage using the dies again, but I already liked the card as is and the Paper Players challenge did call for a CAS project, so I stopped there. I think the card looks more complicated than it is because the background paper is busy and gives the impression that the card has more elements to it than it really does in reality.
