Inspiration: Lasting Memory Layout #489
When I received the Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper pack, I was immediately drawn to the border of watercolored poppies and knew I had to use this one on a page. It happens that I have pictures of ceramic poppies taken at the Tower of London when we visited it a few years ago. The design is sort of inspired by a February 2020 Page Maps sketch, but I did adapt it substantially to make my patterned paper border work.
For the title, I used the Oliver's Stitched ABCs dies from the Spring Lawn Fawn release. I love the size of those, and it just happened to fit the width of my picture perfectly. I was initially planning on cutting the picture down to take away some of the empty red space, but adding the title on the picture took care of that problem. I went online to find the backstory of the poppies and I included the number of ceramic poppies that were used to decorate the tower in memory of fallen British soliders on the layout, using numeric dies to add the number. I die-cut the number out of green patterned paper and traced it with a .01 black pen to make it stand out better. I also used the Layered Butterflies dies from Lawn Fawn to add a butterfly at top (inspired by the sketch). I sprinkled matching sequins around the page, and I added a silver leave trinket next to the title to fill out the space.
This was my first use of the Poppy Moments dies and I'm loving how they look. I'm not usually big on flowers and I often feel like Stampin' Up! is going the floral route way too often, but I do like that suite and its artsy feel. I also like that the layered die-cut flowers are really easy to put together. No need for instructions, just three layers that are really easy to figure out how to assemble. I also like the cut-out piece, which you can see I used in the top corner. Since I hadn't used it yet, I was hesitant to use it straight on my patterned paper, so I ran it on black cardstock as a test piece. Once I decided I was happy with how it looked, I ran it again on my patterned paper. The design was not showing as well as I wanted, though, so I ended up placing the black test piece behind and loving the dimension it was giving, so I ran with that. Love when great ideas come from using bits and pieces lying on my desk. (I just have to find that right balance between having a few pieces lying around for inspiration and too much of a mess hindering my creative process.)

This layout is gorgeous, Cindy! I love that paper and I'll have to check out the Lawn Fawn alpha dies - I have a couple of sets that I love, but I could use a good stitched alpha die! Thanks so much for sharing with us at Lasting Memories! -Lori DT
