Inspiration: Global Design Project #232 + Inspired By #116 (Hello Spring)
I found paper scraps from the Spring Market collection by Carta Bella and I thought the lovely flowers and colours would work great on a Spring project. They were also well-suited for the inspiration project from the Global Design Project. It was nice to get draw inspiration from Connie Collins. I remember discovering her blog back when I became a Stampin' Up! demonstrator and being really inspired by the projects she was sharing. I remember her and I doing a fun challenge together once, where we had to find the ugliest patterned paper we had in our stash and use it on a project. I think we both ended up sending said card to each other - I know she sent me hers because I still have it, and she included the rest of her "ugly" paper in the card, challenging me to make something with it. Fun memories!
It's all the more appropriate I'm using this collection as flowers are Connie's signature style. You can see I reproduced her layout pretty closely. I picked a sentiment from Peaceful Moments (the French version) that reads "Always a place in my heart" and I handcut the two script words to layer over the stamped circle. In an unbelievable coincidence, the line on my handcut piece is going through the letters at exactly the same place as the one on the original paper. I didn't use my placement tool or anything, I just stamped willy nilly on a scrap and that was sheer dumb luck. For the flowers framing the circle, I used some handcut flowers from the patterned paper and the Rolled Roses dies to make felt flowers and leaves. I didn't have any coral shades, but the pink that I tried out turned out better than I anticipated. You might remember that my first attempt at using the die was okay at best, but now that I've seen a quick video posted by Lawn Fawn on Facebook, I had a better idea on how to go about it and the result is better. Using felt probably made it easier than cardstock as well. I added pearls and sequins, as well as thick baker's twine to finish the card off.
Because the flowers are pretty thick, I decided to make an oversize envelope rather than even try and make the card fit into a regular A2 envelope. I've purchased a couple of varied colour cardstock pads from Michael and it gives me a variety of plain cardstock that's neither too expensive nor too thick when I have to make my own envelopes for cards. I found a sand-colored sheet in a fall-themed pack that was nice neutral so I went with that. Unfortunately, the paper scraps I had left from the collection were not large enough to make an envelope with, but I did handcut a couple of images from the paper to glue on the front and back of the envelope to make it match.
Spring Market has yet to let me down. Every single project I've made with this collection has turned out really lovely. I'm pleased to see Carta Bella come out with other market-themed collections, which are all equally beautiful. Even though I'm not as enthousiastic about flowers as other crafters may be, I do have a soft spot for this watercolor blooms series.
