Inspiration: Freshly Make Sketch #405
My niece will be celebrating her seventh birthday at the end of the month and her birthday theme is Halloween. My sister asked me if I could make some simple invitations that Megan could distribute to her friends at school. I was happy to oblige and I realized that Megan would probably be thrilled to spend time with me putting those together, so I prepared a sample and all of the supplies ahead of time and we spend a Saturday afternoon working on putting them together. Once we were done, Megan wanted to keep on crafting afterwards so we spent some time coloring. I had some stamped Stamping Bella images on my desk, so I grabbed those to work on while she was drawing away, using my Prismacolor pencils.
I wanted to turn the images into cards, so I started with the Oddball Wizard today and I figured I could interpret the Freshly Made Sketch with stars to go with him. I found this cool patterned paper with scattered lights in the Summer Dream paper pad from Craft Smith. I stamped and emboss "Make a Wish" in Platinum powder and I tied a bow with Elegant Eggplant baker's twine. The stars were die-cut out of Shimmer Sheets from Elizabeth Craft Designs, which I found while I was looking through my patterned papers. They have this funky shimmer on them - it reminds me of the blue-green sheen you see on oil. I also added Crystal Stars embellishments and Mini Star Confetti, but overall, I tried to make sure the card would work well for a guy.
Tip: When you purchase paper stacks, you might not always like every single pattern that's in there. In the pack I was using, I noticed that the back of the pages were vanilla-colored. Instead of using cardstock from my stash to die-cut the star on the envelope, I used the back of a patterned paper I knew I would have trouble working into a project. I used the second sheet of the same pattern to die-cut a rectangle piece for the inside of the card. (When I use dark cardstock for my card base, I like to use a rectangle piece inside in a lighter color to make it easier to handwrite a readable message. While I could use a white gel pen, I sell my card so I want to make life easy for whoever might purchase the card.)
