Inspiration: Lasting Memory Layout Challenge #468 (CRISP = Corner rounder - Rub-ons - Inserts - Stickers - Patterned Papers)
I was excited to scrapbook my niece's first day of first grade using the new school-themed Doodlebug line. I also bought the matching Icons stickers and went to town creating fun inserts for my pocket page. I realized this is only the second pocket page I've done this year - all of the other ones have been traditional scrapbooking. Pocket pages are what brought me back to scrapbooking after card-making took over and felt more simple and organic than scrapbooking did for me, so it's nice to see that I'm now getting back into it more. I think the Page Maps sketches have taken the guesswork out of designing and made a huge difference for me since magazine layouts used to be single-picture layout and not really helpful (and this is where pocket scrapbooking came in and solved that problem for me). In this instance, I didn't have a lot of pictures to include—only two—but I was working with 6" x 6" paper pads so doing inserts made more sense.
I've always loved Doodlebug's papers - they are beyond cute. My one beef with them was how busy the patterns are. I've noticed that the last few paper collections I've bought for them have more tone-on-tone papers included in the collection, which makes me really happy because it makes it easier to create a balanced project. The design rule is one small pattern + one medium pattern + one large. I hope that the company keeps leaning in that direction.

I always love to see what people use for the letters in these types of challenges! Inserts are genius for the letter 'I'! I must remember that one! Fantastic pocket page spread! Thanks so much for sharing with us at Lasting Memories! -Lori DT
