Inspiration: Simon Says Wednesday (Halloween) + Color Throwdown #565
I made a pit stop at Michaels this week and the Halloween items were at half price. They had their coffin dies set left and i decided to bring one home. I was curious to see if I could turn it into a coffin box. I've been mulling over the idea for a couple of days and the Color Throwdown combo finally pushed me to go for it. There was a lot of fidgeting and it's definitely not perfect from every angle, but it's cute. I forgot to take one measurement and the one that I estimated was wrong, so I had to play around to cover my mistake, but I consider that a learning experience for the next time I give this box another try. One of the elements I'm happy I added was a second layer to the die-cut to make the top wider. My die-cut layer is embossed with the Stylish Scroll folder and I added a second piece of black cardstock, which I cut 1/8" larger using the Perfect Layers ruler. I die-cut the spider from the same die set out of grey cardstock and hung it from a piece of silver metallic thread. The bottom of the coffin seemed a little bare, so it became the perfect place to add a sentiment. I found "Open if you dare" in a retired Halloween set, in the perfect size and font, and I was able to fit it into one of the Ornate Frames dies from Stampin' Up! I've been raving about those and as you can see, they're useful for various different projects.
The purple cardstock was stamped with an unmounted wheel design. I wanted to line the inside of the coffin with ribbon and most of my spools were not wide enough to fill in the space. I did find a striped vanilla satin ribbon that was just the right size: it was slightly larger than the box, which was perfect because it gave the satin a little bit of poof when I glued it in place. I also added striped satin ribbon around the coffin.
