Inspiration: Sample on page 33 of Stampin' Up!'s 2019 Holidays catalogue
I'm still going through the catalogue and putting together projects inspired by samples and recreated with supplies from years past. This time, it was the frame on page 33 that caught my attention. The scripty font that reads Peace on Earth reminded me of an older hostess set from many years ago that said the same thing. I also liked the idea of the foliage around the tag, which reminded me of the branches from the retired Pretty Pines dies. I did pair those old supplies with a few current items, namely the Stitched Nested Labels dies, the Noble Peacock Foil Sheets and the Bright Gleaming Specialty DSP.
I used the green foil to die-cut the foliage and added a few Old Olive branches in there for dimension. I placed the branches in an oval and added the tag on top to see how it looks. Once everything was arranged to my liking, I covered the back of the tag with sticky strip and glued it on the foliage. Initially, I had used the foiled side of the patterned paper (the copper swirls on the Pretty Peacock background) but the foil was taking center stage and was really distracting so as much as I love the paper, I had to flip it around and use the backside instead for the card to work.
I'm mentioning that part because initially. I had reached for the same jingle bells I used on my last project, but they are gold and the color just looked wrong with the copper background, which is how I got the idea of using some Mini pinecones embellishments instead, since they are copper (another retired embellishment). I used thin silver thread to knot the pinecones on the ribbon and then I tied my bow. I used glue dots to add the bow to the project and on a whim, I decided to use the bow die from the Pretty Pines set to add a cardstock bow on top of the ribbon bow. I topped it with an enamel dot for a bit of shine.
If you look closely at the sample, they used some pierced dies behind the sentiment to add detailing on the tag. I was initially planning on clear-embossing snowflakes to mirror that detail. But... I was working on my foliage, glued it in place and realized as I was doing so that it would be tricky to add the embossed snowflakes, which I should have done before gluing anything behind the tag. Fortunately, I spotted the hanging earth ornament from my hostess stamp set amd realized it would fit the empty space perfectly.
