Inspiration: Just Us Girls #470 (Emboss-Resist)
I was trying to decide how I would interpret the emboss-resist challenge and I remembered the many packs of Specialty Designer Series Paper with embossed patterns that Stampin' Up! has released over the years and that are sitting in my stash. I figured it would be a good time to revisit them, now that I have new blender brushes that I love and Distress Oxide inks that I enjoy creating backgrounds with. I was looking at patterns and when I spotted the scales, I decided to pull out my Trishell stamp from The Greeting Farm, which I was happy to revisit since it had not seen ink in a while.
I created the background by blending four Oxide inks together with the Picket Fence Studios blender brushes (an amazing tool, by the way, if you have not had the chance to check those out): Dusty Concord, Festive Berries, Picked raspberry and Peacock Feathers. Then I sprayed the whole thing with a glitter spray (that is either Vanilla Smooch Spritz or a concoction I made myself using some White Frost glimmer paint - I'm not sure since the sprayer was unmarked). Because the spray had some white in it, you can really see the splotches on the background and the color changes depending on the angle you are looking at the card from, so I'm happy with the interest it added to the card.
I then added layers in colors matching my background. embossing the poppy cardstock with the Seaside embossing folder, and because I wanted funky scallops, I used my Wonky Scalloped Frames die as a border (a fun way to get more use out of frame dies).
The mermaid was colored with Copic markers and I added Glitter Gloss Aqua Shimmer to her tail and strands of her hair. I also used Ivory Seashell Crystal Drops on her hairband. The sentiment reads, "To an extraordinary woman."
