Inspiration: Simon Says Stamp Wednesday + CAS(E) This Sketch #284
I was looking at the weekly challenges online and after reading that one of them was back to School, one of the new stamp sets sitting on my desk caught my eye. The Feathers & Frost stamp set from the 2018 Holidays Catalogue includes a "Happy New Year" sentiment (which in French is simple "Happy year.") I figured that this could apply to a new school year, if I paired it with some school-themed images. Talk about getting more use out of your stamps! (The generic sentiment could also work for a student going back to school or a teacher starting a new year with her class.) I also remembered than on a recent shopping trip, I had found the adorable Back to School 6" x 6" paper pad from Echo Park, so the wheels started spinning. I reached for an old-time favorite, the Greeting Card Kids stamp set. I've used it a ton over the years and I still love it as much as when it was brand new.
A lot of the stuff I used on this card is older (the wooden elements, the cotton twine, the red Designer button, the mini stapler), but I did get to break in a new item: my Vegas Gold shimmer paint! I wanted the starburst wood element to look like a gold crest, so I covered the wood with it. When looking at the new paint colours in the catalogue, the name - Vegas Gold - gave me pause. I was wondering what shade of gold the paint would have. Now that I've used it, I'm happy to report that it is a very nice shade of gold - nothing tacky!
The little apple at the bottom of the setiment strip was fussy cut out of a sheet of patterned paper. The Mirror A2 envelope is from my recent envelope order. I decorated it with a bit of patterned paper, making sure to add a place for the address, as I doubt we can write directly on the slick surface of the envelope (except maybe with a Sharpie? To be tested...).
