I was looking at the panda with open arms from the Party Pandas stamp set (2018 SAB) and to me, it looked like he should be holding something. I thought a banner might be cute and as I was pondering how to make a small banner, I remembered that the Home Sweet Home Thinlits set includes a little banner. I held my breath when I pulled it out to measure it - and it turns out that it's the exact same width as the panda's arms! Love when things work out like that.
I drew inspiration from CAS(E) This Sketch #265 for my design. I was trying to decide if I would stamp a sentiment directly on the banner, but it was hard to find something birthday-related that only had five letters in French, so I switched gears and embossed a larger sentiment on the card base. I had die-cut a few banners from various colors of paper, thinking I'd paper piece the banner in the panda's hand, but then, I tested out how it would look if I did a longer banner going up to the sentiment and hanging from it, and I liked how it filled the card, so that's what I went with.
The card base is from the Tutti-Frutti cards and envelopes set, the Designer Series Paper is from the Bubbles & Fizz pack and the ribbon is from the shimmer ribbon pack, all three of which are SAB items. A few Tutti-frutti sequins were added as well.

Sale-A-Bration is coming to an end next week and I wanted to ink the flower from the Amazing You stamp set. (I had only used the sentiments so far.) I found a sketch I thought would pair well with it in Try Stampin' on Tuesday #360. I paired this stamp set with the Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper.
I was looking through my dies for the Lots of Labels Framelits and I stumbled onto a few more sets that I thought I could incorporate into my design. Flourish worked well for the border in lieu of the banner on the sketch, and the Eclectic Layers Thinlits allowed me to add debossed leaves to the Soft Sky patterned paper for a bit of interest. I also used the Tu es formidable Thinlits (French version of Amazing You) for the sentiment. I die-cut the word "together" once out of patterned paper and twice out of Emerald Envy cardstock, making sure to place adhesive sheets on the back of my pieces before die-cutting, which allowed me to stack the three die-cuts easily to give my word a little boost.
The flower was stamped in VersaMark on watercolor paper, embossed in copper powder and watercolored with inks. Glitter enamel dots were added to the label, and pearls to the die-cut border. I like the result - something a little more eclectic than my usual creations!

Lawn Fawn hit another home run with its latest release - definitely as exciting as the fall/winter one was, and they managed to score more of my money once again. I'd have a hard time picking favorites but I will say that the Mini Picture Frames and the Quilted Backdrop dies got me really excited the second I saw them, and were at the top of the wish list. I was also really happy to see a new set of "hanging" critters, after using For You, Deer on a ton of projects. The new Slow Down stamp set was a natural fit for the picture frames, so that's what I reached for when I started creating this card. The initial starting point was the gorgeous colour combo from the My Favorite Things Color challenge #90. Because of the pink and grey, I immediately thought of using the elephant. And I liked that the combo included two shades of pink, which allowed me to do the Quilted Backdrop in two tones. Initially, I was planning on using the light cardstock over the dark one, but the reason why I went the other way is pretty silly... I have a lot of Crisp Cantalope cardstock left in my stash and it's not a colour that I use often, more so now that it is retired. I wanted to use it to make my card base, so I decided to try the dark cardstock on the pale one and frankly, the result was a very nice surprise! I love this dainty die-cut so much, you probably have not seen the last of it on my projects.
As I was coloring my elephant and starting to ponder sentiment options, I vaguely remembered having a French sentiment about never forgetting someone's birthday, so I looked through my list and found what I had in mind: "Me, forget? Never!" How perfect with the elephant! With the added benefit of working for a variety of occasions.
The back of the frame was lined with Gotta Have Gingham paper from Lawn Fawn, another cute addition to their line. The outside frame was die-cut out of Silver Foil Paper, to add a metallic touch and also have the frame stand out from the elephant, as I was afraid it would be a bit boring if I cut the frame out of grey cardstock. The Mini Picture Frames die set includes a tiny heart, which I die-cut out of blue cardstock and covered with Glossy Accents, since I didn't have enamel shapes in the right colour. A silver enamel dot was used at the top in lieu of a nail, to hang the frame. Isn't that tiny bow the cutest thing you've ever seen? We've come so far with dies compared to ten years ago when I first bought my Big Shot.
One last detail I added was a Stitched Rectangle Frame in grey around the card. Since the Quilted Backdrop die covers the whole card front, I like how the Stitched Frames add a pop of color along the edges, with the stitching detail.
The design was based off of Reverse Confetti Sketch #58.

One of my favorite Nestabilities set is the Deckled Rectangles one. The only downside is that they're fairly small, and the largest of the set will not accomodate larger images. It's too bad because I love the vintage photograph look they have, and so I got very excited when I spotted the Stacked Deckle Rectangles dies from Tim Holtz in the Spring release. I knew I would purchase those the second they came out. This is my first creation with them, and the deckled rectangles were the starting point of my card. I thought they would pair great with Edna Loves the Ocean because she herself looks a little vintage in her retro bathing suit. I looked through my paper pads and found Boardwalk from Bo Bunny, which had the right mix of vintage and beachy to go with Edna.
When came time to add the sentiment, I saw "You are amazing" in our SAB offering, which would have worked great with the image, but to make the card more generic, I stamped "I hope you have an awesome day" instad. The stamp set I used is Happy Wishes, which is not meant to pair with the Celebrate You Thinlits per se, but as you can see, it does nonetheless. When it comes to sentiments, Sale-A-Brationr really delivered this year, and I know I'll keep pulling out those sentiments long after they have retired.

I'm trying to use my SAB items as much as possible before the promotion is over. I wanted to use the Springtime Foils paper with the flowers and fussy cut them on a project. I had this idea that the copper foil would look really lovely paired with navy, so I went looking at my list of past ColourQ combos for inspiration and found something interesting in challenge #113: night of Navy + Marina Mist + Soft sky + Sahara Sand. The design was inspired by Freshly Made Sketch #329. To have a big enough circle for the card, I pulled out an old Coluzzle template. I stamped the circle with the Hardwood background stamp and roughed up the edge with a blade.
The sentiment reads, "joy and happiness." It was stamped with the Happy Wishes stamp set (another 2018 SAB offering). To make a matching envelope, I fussy cut one more flower, and I colored with one with the Stampin' Blends markers. The result is a little more streaky than on regular cardstock because of the glossy texture of the Specialty DSP, but it still works nice enough.

I totally fell in love with the Splash! stamp set from Avery Elle when I saw sneak peeks from the Creativation show releases and it went straight to the top of my wish list. Because the matching dies include a pool shape, I knew I would have the opportunity to go to town with my Distress Oxide inks to create fun water effects. One of the techniques shown by Tim Holtz in his Creativation presentation was using the Oxide inks on glossy paper. I knew that technique would look fantastic with the splash stamp set, but Tim did mention that it was better to have the Distress Micro Glaze to seal the colours so they wouldn't come off the paper. (Otherwise, because of the pigment property of the Oxide inks, they sit on top of the glossy paper, dry with a chalky look and rub off on your fingers.) I finally scored a jar of Micro Glaze at my local store during my last visit and was able to give this technique a try. I love the look, and the glossy paper add to the water feel.
So the die cuts two pieces at once: the inside of the pool and the border. I was looking for a piece of cardstock in another color to die-cut the pool border out of and then I was struck with an idea: to pull out Ranger's Grit-paste and apply it to the border I already had to mimick the textured grout usually used around pools. In retrospect, I still should have die-cut the pool border out of a thicker cardstock because it would have made my life much easier - the glossy paper moved around when I tried to apply paste to it, but in the end I still managed to achieve the look I wanted. I stamped and colored a swimmer and two floaters, and covered the tube and the sunglasses with Glossy Accents.
The colors were inspired by Paper Craft Crew challenge #285. I stamped "Happy Retirement" on a piece of striped patterned paper, glued three gems underneath, sparkly washi tape on both sides, and once the card was assembled, the result still seemed a little bare. I tried to think of something I could add to the yellow cardstock (which was already textyred) to make it pop more and I remembered that the Seasonal Decorative Masks from Stampin' Up! (now retired) included a motif that looks likes water drops. I placed the mask over my card and sponged a bit of So Saffron ink with a sponge dauber in some of the spaces. This detail made a huge difference in making my card feel complete.
It seemed like a shame to waste the rest of the pretty glossy paper I had created, so I was able to take advantage of the shape left by the pool die-cut, and I cut out the two remaining borders - used one of the envelope and the second inside of the card. I then stamped and colored an additional swimmer to add to the envelope.

The Uptown Zodiac Girl collection is one of my favorite releases ever from Stampin' Bella. I've been slowly working on making a card set with the various Zodiac signs. Inspired by Color Throwdown, I made this card with the Capricorn image. I stamped it on Crumb Cake (kraft) cardstock and colored it with Prismacolor pencils. I also used alphabet dies to write the Zodiac sign in French on the card (since the stamp set includes the English version). To keep the attention on the image, I kept the rest of my design really simple.

I really like that cute sneakers image from the Epic Celebrations stamp set. There's something both retro and current about it, probably because fashion is a big cycle and everything that was big in the 80s and 90s is currently making a comeback. I saw a lot of sneakers like those back in my young days. I had been meaning to make a card with colorful sneakers and when I spotted the CAS Colours challenge #264, I knew those colors would really pop against black and white. I also wanted to pull out the fantastic Springtime Foils Specialty Series Designer Paper (offered during SAB) before they retire. I used a brayer to add Bermuda Bay ink to the silver striped paper. Here's my warning to you: do not wipe the ink from the foil stripes before the ink you applied had a bit of time to dry. Those Specialty papers have a little bit of a glossy texture and while that allows for easy ink blending, the ink does not instantly dry on it. That also means that you have to be VERY careful if you don't want to leave fingerprints behind. I had to go back and buff away fingerprints at least three times. I also had to use my heat tool on the low setting to dry the ink so that I could get going with finishing my card.
I wanted to have a black embossed sentiment on Pumpkin Pie cardstock. Since we don't carry the black powder anymore, I took advantage of using a stamp positioning tool to stamp the sentiment a couple of times with black ink first, and then I washed my stamp and overstamped the sentiment in VersaMark to emboss with clear powder. It ended up being a good thing that I did that because the first layer of embossing was not even. Some parts were not shiny, so I took advantage of the fact that my stamp was still in place in the positioning tool and I stamped with VersaMark and embossed a second time to correct. That made a huge difference on the result, which I was way more happy with. The sentiment was die-cut with the Stitched Shapes Framelits and I used the uneven polka dot stamp to fill the empty space around the sentiment. To finish the card off, I added Tutti-Frutti sequins.
Since we don't carry Stampin' Blends in all of the shades I was using, my sneakers were colored with Stampin' Write markers. The design came from Clean & Simple Sketch Take II #61, which I pivoted 90 degrees to be able to accomodate a row of sneakers.

Inspiration: Lawn Fawnatics #25
I've had this idea in my head ever since the Sweet Friends stamps and dies came out to use the faces plus the arms and legs to turn the crayon from Color My World into characters. Because I have a lot of ideas but not enough time to make them all happen, it took a while before I got around putting it to paper, but the colorful inspiration picture from Lawn Fawn's challenge was the perfect incentive to get working on it.
I stamped the crayon seven times and used my Copic markers to color them the same shades as the cupcakes in the inspiration picture. Then, I stamped the legs and arms on Blush Blossom cardstock, die-cut them... and discovered when layering the piece under the crayon that the arms were too wide apart to work with the crayon. I could have extended the arms using my black Memento pen, but I already knew that squeezing seven crayons on a card would be a tight squeeze, so I simply cut the arms off and kept only the legs, which actually helped with my design.
The new Really Rainbow paper pack was a natural fit as well. I used the rainbow ombre page for my center piece, and added some black and white washi tape in the center. The striped paper was used in the back and I like that the stripes are uneven and look handdrawn, which works perfectly with my crayon set. I black punched border was added, with a piece of black and grey baker's twine. Gems in rainbow color were added at the top for a bit of sparkle.
At the end, I was debating whether to add a sentiment or not. I couldn't find any French sentiment in what I have that refers to colour or colorful something, so I went with a simple "happy birthday" in a whimsical font, with an enamel dot.
I like the fact that the Sweet Friends stamp set includes four different type of faces - it allows my characters to each have their own personality!

This card was inspired by Freshly Made Sketch #327 and Just Us Girls #431. It was supposed to be simple, but it got more and more intricate as I was working on it. Initially, I wanted to pair the Me and My Yeti stamp set with the latest Distress Oxide ink colours that were added to the ink line. I was just going to do a hill, ink the sky and add the yeti as the star from the sketch.
Then, I got the idea to do an oversize card and use the clear packaging from the stamp set as my envelope to keep it in. I measured the package and that's how I decided on a 4-1/4" x 7-1/2" card. Based on the new Distress ink colors, I decided to use Shaded Lilac and Blueprint Sketch for the sky (with a touch of Black Soot, which is not new), and for the hill, I inked a separate piece of cardstocj with Evergreen Bough, Bundled Sage and a touch of Forest Moss. I die-cut the last piece with the Stitched Hillside Borders dies. I was just coming under my lilac inking a bit with the hillside, and I remembered that the Little Town Border follows the same curve as the hillside die I had used, so I die-cut Night of Navy houses and added them to the backgrond, which looked really cute.
I knew I wanted to use a sentiment from the Pieces and Patterns stamp set, which reads "I love you that much" (or litterally in French, I love you big like that, which works great with the yeti). Because of this sentiment, I decided to use the yeti with the closed arms and have him hold a heart. I inked a scrap of white cardstock with Abandoned Coral Distress ink, covered the whole thing with Frosty Sparkle Glitter Kiss and die-cut a heart using the Sweet & Sassy Framelits. I also dabbed the Glitter Kiss at the top of my sky piece.
That's when I started to play around with the images and the sentiment, trying to find the most pleasing combination. I first tried the sentiment in the sky, but it looked a little lost. So I thought I could lower it and add the Stitched Fireworks from Lawn Fawn above. So I did, and then I decided maybe my sentiment would look better at the bottom, with the yeti placed on the opposite side.
And.. that's when I started thinking that the fireworks would look great lit up. Several months ago, my local store got the Chibitronics in. I purchased the starter kit and it took me this long to get the nerves to use it. Not that I think it's complicated, I've watched a few videos already so I've got a good grasp of the concept, but this stuff is not cheap and the starter kit does not provide you with extras, so you pretty much have to get it right on your first try. I was debating whether to give it a try or not, and finally the curiosity got the best of me, so I did. I sketched my circuit and rewatched a couple of videos to try and figure out what I was not doing right, and I finally managed to make it work. I did make a mistake, though, by gluing the last part of the circuit too far apart to add the third light, so one of my die-cut fireworks is not lighting up, but I decided I could live with that. The "light switch" is the heart in the yeti's arms.
Then, I added a few images from the same stamp set and went to town with sequins and mini stars, and I also decorated an envelope to match. It's larger than the card, but I figured if I mail this, it'll leave room for padding around the card. I'll probably give this card either to my mom for Mother's Day or to my niece, who I know will flip over this.

Inspiration: MFT Sketch #375 + Just Add Ink #399 + Fab Friday #132 + Try Stampin' on Tuesday tic-tac-toe #2 (Ribbon + Coloring + Glitter)
I was looking at online challenges and when I saw that Just Add Ink's theme was water, I thought I could use the mermaid from the Magical Day stamp set... and then this idea popped in my head that she might fit into the Jar of Love images!! I got all excited and quickly pulled out my stamps to check out my theory. And you know what - it does fit! So I looked at colour combos and sketches and quickly found my ideas to make this card come to life. It took a couple of hours to put together just because there are many details on it, but the creative process was really smooth, as the ideas kept coming easily.
One of the first details I want to point out is that the water stamp from Jar of Love is very thin, in the sense that the water is low in the jar. Looking at my mermaid, I realized her hair is floating, and therefore had to be immersed completely in water for the image to make sense. So I stamped the image twice in the jar. I used Pool Party ink and stamped the image off on a scrap of paper before adding to my project to get a sheer and pale result. My mermaid was colored with Stampin' Blends marker and I love how the Pool Party slightly tinted my coloring without mudying it. On a whim, I got the idea to use the little vines with the green glimmer paper to create a bit of scenery around her. (I have to say, I love the look of those papers, but I hate how much glitter they are shedding! It's probably just as worse as using loose glitter, they get all over the place.) The teal glimmer paper was also used to create dots for the background and the white one to add little air bubbles over her head.
I used the sentiment from the same set - I hope your day is magical - and divided it in two, since the matching die only cuts out the last word anyway. I embossed it in gold powder.
For the background, I wanted to use the Ruffles embossing folder to mimick waves, but I decided to stamp it first with smaller circles to for bubbles. I just happens that the Jar of Love includes a little circle (for flower centers, I'm guessing), so I used this one and I got inspired to add the Sheet Music background as well. Mermaids sing, don't they? That's how seamen were getting shipwrecked and why Ulysses asked to be tied to the mast so he could listen to the mermaids' singing so he would not jump into the sea, if my memory serves me right. Putting all of that college knowledge to good use in my stamping. ;)

This card was inspired by Clean & Simple #59 - Take II. (I'm really happy to have the Clean & Simple sketches make a comeback. I used to play with that challenge years ago, and I'm having fun rediscovering the sketches with the Take 2 round.) By using the Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set and Picture Perfect Party Designer Series Paper stack, I was able to put together a really cute card very quickly. The lovely sparkly ribbon I used is part of the Shimmer Ribbon Pack offered as a free gift during Sale-A-Bration. I embellished with Enamel Shapes and Glitter Enamel Dots and it was as simple as that!
