Inspiration: MFT Sketch #375 + Just Add Ink #399 + Fab Friday #132 + Try Stampin' on Tuesday tic-tac-toe #2 (Ribbon + Coloring + Glitter)
I was looking at online challenges and when I saw that Just Add Ink's theme was water, I thought I could use the mermaid from the Magical Day stamp set... and then this idea popped in my head that she might fit into the Jar of Love images!! I got all excited and quickly pulled out my stamps to check out my theory. And you know what - it does fit! So I looked at colour combos and sketches and quickly found my ideas to make this card come to life. It took a couple of hours to put together just because there are many details on it, but the creative process was really smooth, as the ideas kept coming easily.
One of the first details I want to point out is that the water stamp from Jar of Love is very thin, in the sense that the water is low in the jar. Looking at my mermaid, I realized her hair is floating, and therefore had to be immersed completely in water for the image to make sense. So I stamped the image twice in the jar. I used Pool Party ink and stamped the image off on a scrap of paper before adding to my project to get a sheer and pale result. My mermaid was colored with Stampin' Blends marker and I love how the Pool Party slightly tinted my coloring without mudying it. On a whim, I got the idea to use the little vines with the green glimmer paper to create a bit of scenery around her. (I have to say, I love the look of those papers, but I hate how much glitter they are shedding! It's probably just as worse as using loose glitter, they get all over the place.) The teal glimmer paper was also used to create dots for the background and the white one to add little air bubbles over her head.
I used the sentiment from the same set - I hope your day is magical - and divided it in two, since the matching die only cuts out the last word anyway. I embossed it in gold powder.
For the background, I wanted to use the Ruffles embossing folder to mimick waves, but I decided to stamp it first with smaller circles to for bubbles. I just happens that the Jar of Love includes a little circle (for flower centers, I'm guessing), so I used this one and I got inspired to add the Sheet Music background as well. Mermaids sing, don't they? That's how seamen were getting shipwrecked and why Ulysses asked to be tied to the mast so he could listen to the mermaids' singing so he would not jump into the sea, if my memory serves me right. Putting all of that college knowledge to good use in my stamping. ;)

Oh, how genius to use the mermaid with our jar set! I totally have to case this! I have to admit, the mermaid is my fave image from this set, though the dragon comes close... The sparkly fronds and dots are beautiful too! Thanks so much for playing at Fab Friday!

What a fabulous concept Cindy! Your mermaid looks adorable floating there, surrounded by vines and bubbles! I love how you themed your background to suit, although I think it was sirens rather than mermaids but then again maybe they are the same thing! Thanks for joining us at Just Add Ink this week.
