I'm still creating cards for the Dare to Get Dirty challenges on Splitcoast Stampers and thought I could combine them with the Stamping Bella Sketch challenge #16 as well. I did the spotlight technique and colored the top part with Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol.
The sentiment was created with the Sunshine Sayings stamp set and matching Sunshine Wishes Framelits dies. I found in my stash those retired metal frames that I wanted to put to good use, so I made sure to choose a sentiment that would fit. The die-cut was too large, but I thought I could glue it going over the sides and I think that makes the design even more interesting than if the whole thing had fit inside. Happy coincidence! The sentiment reads, "All our wishes of courage," which I thought would work well with the umbrella.
Another retired element I found was the metal brads you see used at the top. They came originally with clear epoxy stickers, which unfortunately yellowed after not too long. I've noticed that epoxy elements all do that, so I'm not steering clear from buying them because they don't age well - be it in your stash or on products. I know some of my family members have told me they keep the cards I send them, so I don't like thinking the supplies yellow over time. So for the middle, I punched out a circle of patterned paper and then covered it with my newly acquired Nuvo Clear Crystal Drops. The product has created a very nice clear raised dome. We'll see how clear it remains over time. Crystal Effects would have been my other option.
One last detail to point out: the original Uptown Girl stamp does not have a lot of drops on it. To fill out the image, which seemed a little bare without the coloring, I pulled out the raindrop stamp from the Weather Together stamp set (from new annual catalogue), stamped it all over the image in VersaMark and embossed in Silver embossing powder. It adds a nice metallic shine that I also like to the card.
