There was not really any inspiration other than using paper scraps and my new Number of Years stamp set for this card. I had just finished making this scrapbook layout and had cardstock leftovers on my desk, and I really wanted to use the striped background on something. I was also inspired by the Just Us Girls challenge #331. Because of the vanilla and navy colours, I thought I could make a masculine card, and we have a few people pushing 50 at the office (won't name names) so I decided it could be a safe number to put on the card and get some use out of it. I die-cut the numbers out of Gold Glimmer Paper and used the Banner punch to add "years" next to it.
While the English stamp says, "Look who's turning...", the French equivalent is a funny saying we use all the time, "et toutes ses dents." It basically translates to "50 years and all of his teeth." LOL! I think we use this expression in French because of the rime, mostly, but anyway, I knew I had to get this stamp set for this sentiment alone! I think it's going to bring a smile to people who receive a card make with it.
The sentiment is actually curved in the actual stamp set... but it's not matching any specific die, so in order to add it to my already striped background, I used two different oval dies to cut the top and bottom, trying to follow the curve as best as possible, and I snipped off the ends with my paper snips. A lot of work to get it to look just right, but I think it turned out ok. Thick Baker's Twine and Gold Metallic Twine were added at the bottom, and a few gold sequins taken off the Gold Sequin Trim as well. Top corners were rounded with the Project Life Corner Punch for added interest.
