I received the latest J.Crew Catalogue in the mail this week. On the back cover, it shows their latest sock collection and the mix of colours and patterns really spoke to me! I immediately knew I wanted to reinterpret the colour combo and nautical prints on a card. I knew I could use either the Sea Street stamp set or the Guy Greetings ones (and I ended up mixing both together). I also thought it was a nice opportunity to use my Tangelo Twist cardstock and ink. I will admit that I haven't used this In Color much since its release, if that all. It's quite bright! It reminds me a lot of the Only Orange colour we used to carry and I struggle with bright colours like these. Here, paired with Marina Mist, Night of navy and Basic Grey, it gets tamed a little.
My favorite part of the card is the heat embossing with color powder. For the focal point, I stamped the anchor on Basic Grey cardstock and embossed it with Smoky Slate Stampin' Emboss powder and it looks awesome! I added the sentiment underneath and embossed it with Tango Tangerine powder. I also used embossing powder to create the background. It was the first time I was trying the Embossed Embossing technique. It's the suggested technique for this week's Friday Mashup challenge #199. I had always used the embossing folder to add heat embossing to a dry embossed baclground before. This technique adds embossing to the top of the details, which you do by adding ink to the raised surface using a brayer. It's really simple, but it totally changes the look of the embossing. Here, I used one of my favorite embossing folders, the Houndstooth one, which is perfect for masculine card.
The design of the card was inspired by the Mojo Monday Sketch #386.
