Stampin' Up!'s Cycle Celebration - One Sketch, Two Cards

I liked the classic shape of the Sweet Sunday Sketch #213 and decided to pair it with the Cycle Celebration stamp set. I had two different ideas on how to use it with the sketch and decided to make these two different ideas come to life.

The first idea was to use the sentiment block as the main shape and to stamp the candles on the panel behind. In this instance, I also used the Just Us Girls Challenge #234 (tall and skinny card) and the Paper Players challenge #189 (a tic-tac-toe - I did "birthday" + "any punch" + "ribbon or twine"). The Retro Fresh Designer Paper seemed perfect with the design I had in mind, and I particularly like the four Sweet Dots in matching colors I added to the stripes at the bottom. A bit of Dazzling Details was added to the flames.

For the second card, I went back to a regular card size because the bicycle in the oval was a bit big on the tall, skinny card. In this case, I pulled out the Sweet Sorbet Designer papers from Sale-A-Bration (I will miss those when they retire Monday). Ruffle and satin ribbon was added in the center, Sweet Dots on the bike image, a few Designer buttons in colors similar to those in the papers and I used the piercing template to add a frame around the oval die-cut. The sentiment that matches the bike says "Wheely Sweet Friend," but seems I'm in need of birthday cards at the moment, I used my Basic Grey Stampin' Write marker and Stamp-a-ma-jig to combine two stamps together to create my own sentiment. Sale-A-Bration's Sweet Sorbet Designer Papers Meet Perfect Pennants

Sharing one more creation made with the Sweet Sorbet Designer Papers from Sale-A-Bration I hadn't had the chance to share with you yet. The card was designer based on a past sketch challenge, but it stayed on my desk and I only photographed it after the challenge was over. It's still worth sharing, as I think it can inspire you to use your SAB papers and your Banners Framelits with the matching Perfect Pennants stamp set.

Stampin' Up!'s Banner Blast (SAB) - Petite pensée

I'm always a little sad to see Sale-A-Bration coming to a close, especially on years where I've particularly enjoyed using the exclusive items. This year is no different, and so when I saw the Mojo Monday sketch (#338) with all the little banners running around the edge, it gave me the perfect excuse to reach for the Banner Blast stamp set and matching Banner punch one more time. I paired it with the Color Throwdown color combo #285, which is so soft and pretty. I had done quite a few projects using Early Espresso with Blushing Bride and Pear Pizzazz during the year those last two were In Colors, but I had never added Sahara Sand to the combo, which gives it a different spin.

I paired three different stamp sets on this card: Banner Blast (SAB), Everything Eleanor and Hello, Lovely. The main sentiment and the background pattern on the Pear Pizzazz cardstpck were created with images from the Hello, Lovely stamp set. I inked the sentiment with Stampin' Write Markers and die-cut the sentiment using one of the dies from the Apothecary Accents Framelits dies. (The sentiment is supposed to match the Decorative Label punch, but I used the Framelits for a different look.) Then, since I had used this die, I thought I could mat the sentiment with the stamp that has the same shape in the Everything Eleanor stamp set. Then, I used the 3" Circle and 3-1/2" Circle Bigz dies to create two circles out of Sahara Sand cardstock. I inked the Decorative Dots embossing folder (SAB freebie!) with Sahara Sand ink before running my smallest circle inside the folder through the Big Shot. This created a darker circle and made it stand out against the bigger circle, which I used as a mat and on which I added a pierced frame.

The edge of the Pear Pizzazz cardstock was hand stitched with Early Espresso baker's twine. I then stamped in VersaMark and embossed a few pennants from the Banner Blast stamp set with clear Stampin' Emboss powder and punched them out with the Banner punch. I added them to the card using Stampin' Dimensionals, decorated the word with a tiny rhinestone and added a star cut out of Silver glimmer paper on one of the pennants. How did I make this star? I simply used the star stamp from the Banner Blast set and stamped it on the backside of the glimmer paper and used it as a guide to cut out the little star.

The card was still missing a little oomph, so since the Everything Eleanor stamp set was out on the table, I spotted the flower and thought I could use it to embellish the card. I stamped it three times on Whisper White cardstock, making sure the third time, I inked the center of the flower with an Early Espresso Stampin' Write marker to give it dimension. I also colored the center with my Pear Pizzazz marker after the flower had been stamped. I handcut each flower, taking off more petals for each layer and then stacked the three layers on top of one another using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Stampin' Up!'s Rev Up the Fun

Today's card was inspired by the color combo from Hand Stamped Sentiments challenge #181. I love using the Rev Up the Fun stamp set for masculine cards - it's a great set, fun and easy to use.

I kept this one pretty simple. I embossed the background with the Chevrons embossing folder and I used the retired pop caps we used the carry in a previous Occasions catalogue. I found a small star in the retired Small Sayings stamp set, stamped it in all three colors and punched it out with the 1/2 circle punch, then added each on top of the pop caps.

The finished card seemed a little bland to me and after letting it lie on my desk for a few nights, I spotted my Chevron border punch and got the idea to add sparkly arrows made out of Silver glimmer paper. It fills in the image a little and add a touch of glitz, so I already like the card much better with this small addition.

Stampin' Up!'s Animal Talk: Wouaf Wouarraf

I love this week's ColourQ combo (#233) and was hoping I'd have time to create something with it. Looking at my stamp stash, I decided I hadn't used Animal Talk in a while, and I decided to pair it with the Monday Lunchtime Sketch #306.

The Designer Papers are all from last year's In Color 2011-2013 Paper Stack. Some Designer brads from the Everyday Enchantment pack (from a past SAB offering) was added, and I used a die from the Lots of Tags set to create the sentiment block.

The main image was inked with Stampin' Write Markers (Basic Black and Island Indigo) to get two colours, and I used ink (Crumb Cake and Soft Suede) and a blending pen to color the little doggie. A frame of piercing was added all around the Calypso Coral paper.

As a last-minute addition, I spotted the Essentials Wooden Elements on my desk and decided it'd be cute to do the word bubble and use the text Designer Paper to cover it with. Goes well with the image, I find!

Oldie But Goodie: La cerise en plus

Looking through my stamps for inspiration on what to use next, I stumbled unto a retired hostess set called A Cherry on Top and decided to pull it out to make a card. I paired it with the retired Patio Party Designer papers, which had some cake pattern that worked great with the stamped image.The design was inspired by the Seize the Sketch challenge #16.

There's a couple of Sale-A-Bration items shown on this card: the Summer Starfruit baker's twine, which comes from the Sweet Sorbet accessory pack, and the little banner with the star at the top, which was stamped with the Banner Blast stamp set and punched with the matching Banner punch. This seems to have been two of the preferred SAB items with my customers this year, so make sure you get your hands on it before Sale-A-Bration comes to an end on March 31st.

I wanted the cupcake top to sparkle and I was worried that the ink color might change if I used Dazzling Details (which will sometimes happen with shades of red or pink, particularly), so instead, I used my two-way glue and Dazzling Details glitter, which I hadn't pulled in a while. It reminded me why I love the stuff: it's super sparkly with a subtle hint of color in there. It was a beautiful finishing touch.

A matching envelope was made with the Envelope Punch Board. (Yes, I'm addicted to it.)

Stampin' Up!'s Just Sayin' - Lots of Bubbles

Ever since I've received my Word Bubbles Framelit dies, I've been wanting to use them to create negative spaces on a card. For this one, I decided to place a bunch of bubbles on my background cardstock to create windows that would show the designer paper underneath. I also ran the cardstock through the Big Shot with the Pretty Print embossing folder (sold previously in the Holidays catalogue) to keep with the chatter theme.

I then stamped my sentiment on Crumb Cake cardstock and embossed it with White Stampin' Emboss powder and die-cut the sentiment with the Framelits as well.

Once that was done, I wasn't where to go from there anymore. I puttered around with some cut-out pieces until I found a design that I liked. I added a few Daffodil Delight Sweet Dots to the bubbles and a white one to the sentiment. This card is more modern than my usual style, but I have to say I am really pleased with the end result. One of my favorites I've made lately!

New Year Kitty

I really liked the Cat's Pajamas sketch challenge so I looked through my stash to see which set could work for it. Since I was making a Holidays card, I paired it with the Merry Monday Christmas challenge (#118 - buttons and ribbons).

The patterned paper is something I got for free with an online order. It inspired the color scheme.

Stampin' Up!'s Bright Blossoms - Weathered Wood Technique

This card was inspired by three different challenges: 1) Sketch Frenzy Friday for the design; 2) Pals Paper Arts for the color combo and 3) Just Us Girls for the technique (Weathered Wood).

I had never seen or tried that technique before and I thought the result was interesting so I gave it a try using Wisteria Wonder cardstock, on which I ran my Smoky Slate ink pad, and then I overstamped the Hardwood background stamp in Basic Grey ink. The mottled effect looks great with the wood and really creates an interesting background.

Keeping with the wood theme, I used one of the Essentials Wooden Accents and covered it with Whisper White Craft ink, then overstamped a birthday sentiment from the Petite Pairs stamp set in Night of Navy ink. Underneath the wood banner, I added a piece of Smoky Slate cardstock that has been embossed with the Decorative Dots embossing folder offered as a Sale-A-Bration gift right now. I ran my Smoky Slate ink pad over the embossed dots to make them stand out more.

The main images comes from the Bright Blossoms stamp set. I embossed the flowers with Iridescent Ice embossing powder for added shimmer and placed Wisteria Wonder and White Sweet Dots on each of the flowers.

A matching envelope was created with the Envelope Punch Board out of a piece of Smoky Slate Designer paper.

Lately I've been finding myself adding some Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein clothes to my wardrobe, which used to be two brands that were staples back when I was in high school. I hadn't used my Cat's Pajamas stamps in a while and TCP had a sketch challenge this week, so I decided to pull out some new patterned papers I have and make a Christmas card. The snowflake die-cuts were actually leftovers from a former project I had lying on my desi, and they were just the right color to finish off the card!

Stampin' Up!'s Mosaic Madness - Birthday Mosaic

This week's Pals Paper Arts sketch was so versatile that after creating one card with the design yesterday, I was inspired to use it a second time around to create a different card. It's a good example of how a great sketch will offer a lot of options.

I was looking through my stamps for inspiration on what to stamp next and when I saw the Mosaic Madness stamp set, I thought the images would be perfect to use as a repeated shape. Since this stamp set has matching Designer Series paper, I went for the obvious pairing to save on time ('cos we really need to sometimes if we want to have the chance to stamp at all).

Three images from the set were stamped on Whisper White cardstock and punched out with the Mosaic punch. I then cut a strip of Pool Party Designer paper and matted it with Daffodil Delight cardstock, wide enough to stamp the border image in Daffodil Delight on both edges. I then used the new Fringe Scissors to cut fringes in the Strawberry Slush Designer paper and added those on each side of the panel as well.

Then, I used a strip of Core'dinations cardstock (for texture) and stamped a sentiment from the Remembering Your Birthday stamp set. The sentiment is actually longer than what you see here. It says "Friends and fun and presents too! Happy Birthday." I will admit I don't particularly care for the first part of the French translation and have a pretty good feeling that I won't really want to use it, so I decided to run my scissors through the rubber and take it apart so that the Happy Birthday is separate. This avoids having to use markers every single time and if I ever want to combine the words again, there's the Stamp-a-ma-jig for that, but I feel I'll get more use out of it this way. Don't forget those stamps are yours, so don't be shy in personalizing them to your liking so you get the most use out of them.

An matching envelope was, of course, made out of Designer Series paper using the Envelope Punch Board.

Stampin' Up!'s Happy Hour - Christmas Cheers

This is another card I stamped yesterday. It was initially inspired by the Festive Friday inspiration picture (#26) and then I added the Paper Crew Challenge sketch #82 to it. I liked the little holly on the cookies and it reminded me of the holly image in the Happy Hour stamp set, which I'll use any excuse to use because it's one of my favorites.

I wanted the Christmas accents to stand out, so I stamped the drinks in Crumb Cake ink and then colored the holly image with Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive Stampin' Write markers before adding to a few of the glasses. I also added a candy cane to one of the martinis as well.

The Designer Series Papers are from the Festival of Prints pack that was in last year's Holiday catalogue. The colors were perfect to reflect the inspiration image. On a whim, I decided to try to cover one of my paper doilies with gold embossing powder to see what it would look like. The result is shiny and elegant!

I created the sentiment tag with one of the Chalk Talk Framelits dies. It was too long, so I cut it once full size, then popped it into the die again to shorten it, and then I used one of the holes Framelits from the same set to insert my ribbon (Cherry Cobbler seam binding).

The top of the main image was decorated with a row of piercing done with one of the piercing templates (love those!) to add a scallop edge.

A matching envelope was made out of Early Espresso Designer Series paper using the Envelope Punch Board, and I die-cut a tag out of Very Vanilla cardstock using another die from the Chalk Talk collection.

Stampin' Up!'s Collage Curios - Vintage Collection

This card is a little different from my usual style, but I am really pleased with how it turned out. It was inspired by three different challenges: Create With Connie and Mary #292 for the colors, Pals Paper Arts #193 for the sketch and Paper Players #185 for the theme (Spring Thank You). I will admit I wasn't sure I could make the color combo justice. I liked it, but it looked like something very modern to me, which is not my usual style. I still decided to give it a try and now I'm glad I did because the result is so soft and pretty! Ironically, even though I felt initially the color combo was modern (probably because of the mix of black in there), it worked perfectly on a card that is more vintage-looking. The addition of gold touches helped me tie everything together.

I was looking for stamp sets that would work with the PPA sketch and stumbled unto Collage Curios. This is a set I had received from SU! in my title bundle and not something I would necessarily have selected for myself, as it is a departure from my usual style. I will admit that I ended up using it more than I originally thought I would, even though I usually struggle with using stamp sets that have smaller images. Doesn't it look pretty used in this setup, though?

For the background, I paired a piece of patterned paper from the Sweet Sorbet DSP offered exclusively during Sale-A-Bration and added a layer of Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum on top. I had some leftover gold baker's twine from making my Mini Memories Simply Created Album and used it to add stripes between the gold stripes on the vellum.

The sentiment was created with the A Round Array stamp set and layered over a piece of Summer Starfruit satin ribbon and a wooden banner from the Essential Wooden Accents pack. The Pistachio Pudding cardstock was stamped with the Hardwood background stamp.

Once I was done with those steps, the card still looked a little bland to me, so I pulled out the In Color Boutique Details and Very Vintage Designer Buttons. I then remembered a trick they had showed at Leadership last year that I have been wanting to try ever since: embossing buttons. Shelli had dipped part of her Very Vintage button in Versamark and embossed the bottom in gold powder and it looked absolutely gorgeous, so I gave it a try here. After doing only the bottom, I thought it would look better if I did it all the way around for this card, and then I added a Jumbo Pearl in the center to finish the antique look. I repeated the same step with the Boutique Details accent and also added a smaller pearl on this one as well.

Stampin' Write Markers (Summer Starfruit, Pistachio Pudding), Gold Stampin' Emboss powder

When I saw the Inspired By Challenge #108, I knew I had just the stamp for it. It's a stamp from Penny Black called London that has sat unused in my stash for over a year. (I blame those two moves I had to take care of.) Anyway, as I was putting this card together, I remember that my colleague Saskia's birthday is coming up at the end of March and since she moved here from London a year ago, this card will be perfect for her, so I used the hostess set called Banner Greetings to add a birthday wish.

The Designer Series Paper is from the Newsprint collection, now retired. I stamped the main image in VersaMark, embossed it with Basic Black Stampin' Emboss powder and then used my Real Red, Smoky Slate and Basic Grey Stampin' Write Markers to color in parts of the image.
