Paper Scraps Flower

This card was also born from my effort to use my paper scraps. I found the idea for the flower in a magazine and recreated it using Stampin' Up! stuff. Those papers are old: they're the first batch of double-sided papers that were offered. A revolution at the time...

Butterfly Birthday

I quickly put this card together the last time I was working on using my paper scraps. I needed birthday cards to send away so I used the Bitty Banners stamp set and matching Framelits for the sentiment.

I created my own sparkly vellum for the butterfly by covering a piece of vellum cardstock with VersaMark then pourring Iridescent Ice Stampin' Emboss powder all over it. The result is beautiful and very sparkly.

A burst of Sunshine

Today, I tried the starburst technique for the first time, and I made two cards at the same time using the leftover pieces from the first card to create the second one. No waste of time or cardstock! It's unfortunate that the Cloudy Day embossing folder has retired because it is a perfect match to the new image from the See Ya Later Sale-a-Bration stamp set. I used Core'dinations cardstock in the background so that I would be able to sand the embossing and get a lighter colour on the clouds. The white cloud was created using the Cupcake punch.

Scrapbooking with Stampin' Up! - Burst of Laughter

This is another page I made for Maggie's retreat. This page illustrated how to take a page from a regular stamping magazine (in this instance, Creating Keepsakes) and drawing inspiration from it to make a page with your Stampin' Up! supplies.

The original page had elements hanging a little outside of the edges of the page, which I reproduced with my title block. I got the idea to use this banner because it was printed on one of the Designer papers. I thought it was beautiful and too bad not to use it, so I handcut it and added it to my 8½ x 11 page.

 

TIP: It goes without saying that this page will not fit in a regular 8½ x 11 protector because of the title banner, so I actually added it to one of my 12 x 12 albums and slipped a window sheet inside the protector to make the whole thing sturdier and not have the page move around in the protector.

 

At the bottom of the page, I used the Filmstrip stamp (such a fun addition to my stamp collection!) and added tickets from the There's the Ticket stamp set over it (another elements drawn from the original page). A couple of Designer buttons were scattered around.

Frames were handcut from one of the papers from the Etcetera Designer Series Papers (beautiful collection!) and added at the bottom of the ruler paper. A few circles punches out of matching papers were added. I added a piece of paper doily underneath the title banner, stamped my title with the Notable Alphabet stamp set and added two more Designer buttons from the Subtles collection pack. The banner was added in place using Stampin' Dimensionals.

I used the Remember This and That rotary stamp (from the annual catalogue, page 130) to add the date at the bottom.

Scrapbooking with Stampin' Up! - First Halloween

Gosh, am I ever late in sharing this scrapbook page with you guys but since we usually scrapbook after the fact and therefore out of season, I still think this page might inspire you your own design. I made this page for my friend Maggie's retreat, where I made a short presentation on scrapbooking. I wanted to show attendants how to use various Stampin' Up! tools to make pages. Here, I started with the great Halloween papers that were available in the Holidays catalogue and I combined them with the Simply scored and Diagonal plate to create the funky corners. I really liked the paper with the frame in the center and so in order not to hide the design, I used it to frame my picture and concentrated on the corners for embellishment.

I used a craft knife to take out the center of the frame and placed my picture underneath, with a second patterned paper placed underneath, that shows through the frame around the picture and in the corners. Speaking of corners, are you wondering how those were made? Simply by using the Diagonal plate and scoring four times at regular intervals. Then, I folded the corners in a back and forth movement to create an accordeon and held the corners down in place using Pumpkin Pie glimmer brads.

Like that chevron border as well? It was created uwing the Chevron Border Punch (still available in the Occasions catalogue, p. 28).

The title was created with a assortment of stamp sets. I used Halloween Bash (from the 2012 Holidays catalogue) for the argyle frame and the "Halloween." The word comes from a longer sentiment, but I used a Basic Black Stampin' Marker to only ink the word separately.  I used Heat 'n Stick to cover the frame with Pumpkin Pie fine glitter, and I also used it on the Beware oval with the bat, paired with Basic Black fine glitter, this time. The result looks awesome! You really need to use fine glitter (like the one we sell) to get good results with Heat 'n Stick and stamps, otherwise the details get lost in there.

The first part of the title was created with the Morning Post Numbers stamp set (also from the Holidays catalogue). I stamped and embossed the frame in black powder on the newspaper print paper (from the Witches' Brew Designer Series paper) and cut it with the matching Deco Labels Collection Framelits, and I added the "ère" from the Memorable Moments stamp set (p. 134 of annual catalogue). The ticket at the bottom of the page also comes from the Halloween Bash stamp set and was punched out with the Ticket punch.

Finally, my journaling was handwritten using the Chalk marker, which carried over in the Occasions catalogue and is still available for purchase.

Here Comes the Bride

Still working on getting all my stamps inked. I didn't have any wedding card on hand anymore so I used this Uptown Girl image to create one. I used the washi tape from the Watercolor Wonder pack to create my borders. The main image was stamped and embossed with gold powder on watercolor paper, then watercolored with inks and an Aquapainter brush. The sentiment comes from a retired hostess set called Notes de saison.

Tessie the Teacher

I'm often asked for thank you teacher cards at the end of the school year so I try to plan ahead and make one once in a while before the school ends. The Smarty Pants papers from Simple Stories couldn't have been more perfect for this Stamping Bella image.

The tab on the side of the main image was created with the use of the Envelope Punch Board. Love that thing!!

Keeping Warm

This is a quick card I put together for a Greeting Farm challenge that was about paper piecing. I used the technique on the little boy's sweater and scarf and colored the rest of the image with markers. The image was matted with a cardstock die-cut with the Starburst Framelits dies. The sentiment is an old rub-on from SU! I cut apart and applied letter by letter following the shape of the circle.

Don't Forget My Stocking

The starting point for this card was an old sheet of patterned paper I had lying in my stash. I paired it with a retired hostess set from SU! that lets you dress up and accessorize your snowmen any way you like. The metal buttons are another thing that has been sitting in my stash since my humble beginnings in paper crafts. They are actually from the fabric store, where I had stopped to pick up buttons, ribbons and trims. That was before we had actual scrapbooking stores in Quebec City... We've come a long way!

Another blast from the past: the card base was created with Cranberry Crisp cardstock. Our very first In Color offering...

Meet Me Under the Mistletoe

Just a fun card I put together based on a sketch by Stamping Bella. This is another stamp that hadn't seen ink yet, so it was the starting point of the card. I'm really happy with how everything came together.

The cute tag was created using an old rub-on from Stampin' Up! from a Christmas kit called Old St. Nick.

The star sequins are from the In Color sequin pack sold by SU!, but the round sequins are actually recycled! A clothing store I went to had a sale and you could select a little organza bag filled with sequins, jingle bells and a prize. I kept them, knowing sequins are all the rage and that I could use them on my future projects. I added brads in the center of the two green sequins. In the center of the star sequins, I wanted to add rhinestones, but I wanted them to match the color of the stars so I used an alcool-based yellow marker to color them before adding them to the project.

The stitching on the music sheet paper was done by hand using needlepoint floss in a matching color.

Putting ink to a stamp I hadn't used yet today. I paired it with some cute autumn papers I got from SU! when it hit the Clearance Rack last fall. I pulled out an old Hodgepodge Hardware kit from SU! Stampin' Up!'s Tag It - Loads of Love

Today's card was inspired by the Paper Players challenge #178 and the Sweet Sunday Sketch #202. I liked the colour combo - it made me in a good mood, and I liked how the pennant on the sketch would allow me to play with the new Framelits from the Occasions catalogue.

I paired those with the Tag It stamp set, and decided to use the shovel image since I hadn't inked it yet. I inked the image and sentiment with Stampin' markers the first time, stamped it centered on my piece of Whisper White cardstock, then washed and dried the stamp thoroughly, then inked only the shovel in different colors and used the Stamp-a-Ma-Jig to line everything properly. I didn't like the image as a rectangle, so I used one of the largest Deco Labels Framelits die to cut only the ends of the cardstock. I used a smaller die from the same collection to add a piece of Primrose Petal cardstock underneath as a mat, with Candy Dots at each end. A wooden arrow from the new Essential Wooden Accents was added and decorated with a Crushed Curry button from the Regals Designer Buttons pack.

The background cardstock was stamped with the beautiful Hardwood background stamp. On top of it, I added a pennant die-cut with the Banners Framelits dies (Occasions catalogue, page 27). I used Crushed Curry Core'dinations cardstock and embossed one side with a folder from the Adorning Accents set, then sanded the hearts to make them stand out. A piece of Coastal Cabana ruffled ribbon was added at the top of the banner piece. Finally, Silver Mini brads were added in all four corners, and a heart was punched out of the Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum with the Small Heart punch.

The matching envelope was made with the Envelope Punch Board.

Scrapbooking with Stampin' Up! - A Special Moment

This page was entirely copied from a page I saw on Pinterest. I just loved it and thought it would work great for this picture of my niece and mom.

The background was created by stamping a flower from Mixed Bunch in Whisper White Craft ink on Basic Grey cardstock. I used my embossing tool to speed up the drying process (as Craft ink is a slow-drying ink) and then I went around the flowers with the small tip of a Basic Grey Stampin' marker to create a shadow. Designer buttons were added to the center of the background flowers.

The right border was created with a piece of Smoky Slate Chevron ribbon on which I added flowers that were stamped with Wisteria Wonder, Perfect Plum and Pear Pizzazz ink and embossed with Iridescent Ice Stampin' Emboss powder. They were punched with the matching flower punch and accented with a Designer button in the center, threaded with White baker's twine.

The journaling block was made by layering the Labels Collection Framelits dies. The middle one was embossed with the Plethora of Petals embossing folder. I used a Basic Grey Stampin' Marker to journal, and I used the Chalk marker to outline the outer layer.

The title was created with the ABC-123 Outline Alphabet and Numbers and the ABC-123 Sketch Alphabet and Numbers stamp sets.

Celebrations

The card I'm sharing today is simpler than my usual style, but I'm happy with how it turned out. It was inspired by a former Create with Connie and Mary color challenge (Strawberry Slush + Bermuda Bay + Basic Black). I pulled out a retired set called Canada Day and used the fireworks combined by the "Celebrations" sentiment from the Seasonal Sayings set (still available). I thought they were a perfect match.

I decorated the center of the bigger fireworks with rhinestones. As for the stars, they were stamped with VersaMark and I brushed some White Pearl Ex pigment (also retired) on them with a brush for added shimmer. I miss when we carried the Pearl Ex, I loved teaching techniques using those pigments. You could certainly use the Illuminate ink pad to get the same shimmery look.

Stampin' Up!'s Starburst Sayings - Happy Day

Today's card was inspired by Retro Sketch #96 and Color Throwdown combo #274. Looking at the sketch, I figured I could use my new Starburst Sayings stamp set for the focus point. I stamped it in Island Indigo and die-cut it using the matching Starburst Framelits. The back piece was embossed using the Decorative Dots embossing folder (which will be offered during the Sale-A-Bration promotion). To decorate each side, I cut the 1-1/4" Burlap Ribbon (which has carried over from the Holidays catalogue) in two and I glued it on both sides of the embossed panel using Sticky Strip.

The Crumb Cake background was stamped using the fabulous Hardwood background stamp and I rounded the corners using my Envelope Punch Board. At the top, I added three bits of Watercolor Wonder Designer Washi Tape and matching brads (all retired) on top. A piece of Baja Breeze seam binding (now retired) was added at the bottom. To finish it off, a matching envelope was created out of Baja Breeze Designer paper with the Envelope Punch Board.

Today's card is inspired by the Clean & Simple sketch and by the Pals Paper Arts color combo. I really liked the idea of the envelope with something spilling from it. I first started by using the smallest measurement on the Envelope Punch Board, but when I placed it on the card, I found it to be quite big, so I went hunting in my stash for the old plastic envelope templates SU! used to carry years ago. (Back in the days when we didn't have a bunch of toold that cut the envelopes for us and we had to trace and cut them by hand.) I traced the smallest envelope on Soft Sky Core'dinations cardstock and I used the template to create a lining in the same shape out of the Gold Fancy Foil Designer vellum (the heart pattern sheet). A piece of Gold Sequin Trim was added to the bottom of the envelope and I punched out a heart of the gold patterned vellum using the Small Heart punch to add to the trim. The same punch was used to create red hearts out of Real Red Core'dinations cardstock (for texture).

The sentiment comes from the Lots of Thanks stamp set. I thought the "Avalanche of Thanks" was appropriate with the hearts spilling everywhere on the card. I also added a row of pierced holes under the sentiment to finish it off. I rounded out the corners of my piece of Whisper White cardstock using the corner rounder punch from the Envelope Punch Board, and I mounted it on a Whisper White card. I love the tone on tone look, it adds dimension and interest.

Spring Hat

I was totally inspired by the beautiful, soft color combo TCP proposed for its weekly challenge, so I looked at my stamp collection to find something suitable and decided Sprinkles in her Spring hat would be perfect to go with the pink shades. I picked Blushing Bride as my pink color, for a nice vintage touch. As I was pulling out an older In Color DSP pack with Blushing Bride papers in it, I found some long-retired rub-ons that were part of an egg-decorating pack. (Remember those?) I thought their delicate flower patterns would be perfect on this card, so I used them on the patterned paper and directly on the card base. I added an embossed scallop border with the use of the Simply Scored Border Plate.

The main image was stamped on Very Vanilla cardstock, colored with markers and punched with the Scallop Tag topper punch. A piece of twine tied with silver baker's twine was added at the top.

Here Come the Newlyweds

I needed a wedding card in a pinch so I found this wedding tag I had previously and simply finished it off as a card. You can find the original post about the tag HERE.

I used matching Modern Medley Designer paper and a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock embossed with the Perfect Polka Dot embossing folder for the back. A piece of Basic Black lace and pearls finished the look.

Just Thinking of You

This is a card I made a few months ago to submit for publication, that didn't make the cut. It uses the beautiful Afternoon Picnic Designer paper from the annual catalogue. I paired it with a retired single stamp called Just Thinking that was sold in the 2013 Occasions catalogue. I stamped it twice, on Wisteria Wonder cardstock embossed in Pool Party embossing powder, and tone on tone on Pear Pizzazz cardstock. I punched the center of the Pear Pizzazz sentiment with a Circle punch (and used the punched piece on the envelope to make a matching set) and I layered it as a frame over the other piece, using Dimensionals, and I matted the sentiment block with a paper doily. The flower at left is actually punched out of the patterned paper using the Small Scallop Circle punch, and I added a small flower punched with the Itty Bitty Shapes punch pack, with a matching Candy Dot in the center.

The Wisteria Wonder strip was punched at the end with the Artisan Label punch (work with the punch upside down and slide only one end of the strip in the punch to achieve the look) then embossed with a Needlepoint Border embossing folder. A piece of Designer washi tape was added on top.

Personalizing Kits - Merry Little Christmas SS kit

Simply Stamped kits are great for beginners because they include all of the supplies you need to get started and everything is cut and ready to go. That being said, those kits are perfect for more advanced stampers as well because they still allow you to create cards easily but those kits can be jacked up to make them more interesting for a more seasoned stampers.

Let me show you how I used the Merry Little Christmas SS kit to make a series of personalized cards.

When I attended my friend's stamping retreat, I was a little puzzled as to what to pack. I wanted to have enough stuff to create freely, while still not pinning the house to my car, so one of the things I decided to pack with me was the Merry Little Christmas kit and it is what I pulled out first when I got to the retreat. It allowed me to work with a limited number of ink colors and I was able to create various look by simple changing the stamps I was using and adding either stamping or dry embossing to the background of my cards. I also used the envelope liners as Designer paper to give myself more design possibilities, and I used embellishments from my stash to add pizzazz to the finished cards.

Stampin' Up!'s Just Sayin' - Love Bubble

This is a card that started a little blah and that evolved into something that I love. I used the awesome Just Sayin' stamp set and paired it with the Fresh Prints Designer paper stack for the background. A circle was cut out of Real Red Core'dinations cardstock using the 3-1/2 Circle die and I added Coastal Cabana ruffled ribbon around. The center was decorated with a smaller circle cut out of the new Gols Fancy Foil Designer Vellum (p. 23 of Occasions catalogue) and I added little dots with the white gel pen.

Over it, I used a strip of Baked Brown Sugar punched with the Scallop Trim Border punch on which I added two strips of Designer washi tape (the gold one from the Watercolor Wonder kit and the Coastal Cabana one from the Retro Fresh kit). In the center, I wrapped a piece of Gold baker's twine. The sentiment was stamped and embossed with Pool Party Stampin' Emboss powder and I added a heart in Real Red (found in Just Sayin' stamp set as well). A In Color Boutique Details embellishment was added.

After adding all these elements, I still found the card to be a little empty somehow and after letting it alone for a while, I got this idea of using the Viola's Lace wheel to add a border at the top and the bottom. This is where I got the bright idea of stamping the lace on vellum and embossing it with white powder so that it looks even more like lace. I'm really happy with how it turned out! (By the way, I unmounted my wheel and mounted it on static cling so that I can use it as a stamp instead of a wheel. It gives me better control of where I want to stamp the image.)

Stampin' Up!'s Happy Celebrations - Congratulations

I really like the new Happy Celebrations stamp set. It's simple, but adorable, and it's going to be an easy go-to for all kinds of cards. It's really simple to use, too - it's a two-step stamping set, but using the Stamp-a-Ma-Jig is optional because it looks good even when it's not lined up perfectly.

This card uses quite a few new items:

• The Pennant punch from Sale-A-Bration
• The Gold sequin trim
• The Sweet Sorbet accessory kit from SAB - the cork embellishments on the pennants and the Summer Starfruit baker's twine
• The Essentials wooden accents (the heart)
• The Hardwood background stamp (love that one!)

 

To create the sentiment, I paired the two sentiment stamps from the set. The Congratulations word was embossed with Pool Party Stampin' Emboss powder on Coastal Cabana cardstock. I like the look - the word is slightly paler than the cardstock.

Get Better Soon

I really like how this card turned out. It's simpler than my usual designs, but I still it's cute. My favorite part is that the background patterned paper comes from the Season of Style paper pack and it's been used on a non-Christmas project. (A great way to stretch your paper past the Holiday season.) I thought the polka dot on the Crumb Cake background looks a bit like a band-aid, so I paired it with the Get Better image from the Tag It stamp set. The image was inked with Stampin' Markers to get a multicolor look, and die-cut with the Chalk Talk Framelits dies. Another die from the same kit was used on Cherry Cobbler Core'dination cardstock to create the mat behind the image, and Marina Mist Candy Dots were added as well.

The panel behind was created by embossing a piece of Marina Mist cardstock with the new Arrows embossing folder from the Occasions catalogue, which I matted with a piece of Night of Navy cardstock whose both sides were embossed with the Needlepoint Border embossing folder (the cross stitch one). Then, I added washi tape from the Epic Day This and That Designer Tape set to finish the look.

 

TIP: I wanted wide rounded corners so instead of using the Corner Rounder punch, I pulled out the Envelope Punch Board and used the Corner Rounder that is included on it! The rounded corners are a little bigger on this one, so one more use you can get out of this aewsome tool!

Stampin' Up!'s Baby, We've Grown - Family of Three (SAB Preview)

Today's card was made with the Baby, We've Grown stamp set. I hesitated getting this set if only because my Occasions catalogue wish list was really long. In the end, I decided this set really spoke to me and that it wouldn't be a bad thing to add an additional baby set to my collection since I'm getting quite a few requests for this type of cards and do not have a whole lot of baby images at hand.

I used a Viva la Verve sketch (December #4) as inspiration and combined the new stamp set with the Sweet Sorbet Designer papers that will be offered during the Sale-a-Bration promotion. The Crisp Cantaloup baker's twine is also part of the SAB offering, in the Sweet Sorbet accessories pack. (You're going to love those two items, they're beautiful!)

The main image was stamped on Whisper White cardstock with Basic Grey ink and colored with inks and a blending pen. The corners were rounded with a circle punch and the image was matted with Pistachio Pudding cardstock. At the bottom, I created a lace border using the Finishing Touches embossing folder and the Large Scallops Edgelits die. A piece of Crisp Cantaloup ruffled ribbon was added in between the two pieces.

In the center, I created slits in a piece of Sahara Sand Core'dination cardstock (for texture) using a kraft knife and inserted a piece of Summer Starfruit satin ribbon in it. Pool Party Candy Dots were added in between.

I used a piece of patterned paper and the Envelope Punch Board to make a matching envelope. If you look closely at the pattern on the paper I used, it looks just like owl feathers, so it was too perfect to pass up. The Envelope Punch Board is my new favorite accessory because it's the simplest tool that's ever been made available to make envelopes.
