Welcome to our November Tour de Freaks! This tour is brought to you by the Control Freaks Stampers members and if you have been following the tour, you should have gotten to my blog by clicking on the link provided by our Freaky friend Deb Currier on her blog. If you are just starting out, make sure to visit all seventeen blogs that are part of the tour today by following the links provided at the bottom of each post. Our theme this month is - what else - Christmas! Here goes...
My first project: Surprise Card Box
This box was made using the Simply Scored. I simply figured the size I needed to add the 4-1/4 x 4-1/4 square cards and envelopes inside. Here's my tip when trying to figure out the dimensions of a handmade box: make a drawing on a sheet of paper. First draw the bottom of the box and indicate the dimensions you'll need. Make sure to leave a little bit of extra room around your projects and use the dimensions of the envelopes if you plan to include them in the box, as they are larger than the cards are. Then decide how high you want the box's sides to be and add all four sides to your drawing, writing the dimensions of those as well. Then, you can add the bottom plus two sides to figure the length of cardstock you need and the bottom plus two sides to figure out the width. Drawing a template help me avoid mistakes, which I seem to invariable make when I figure out the measurements in my head.

To create the multicolored penguin, I stamped it three times in different colours and then paper pieced the hat and scarf on the black image. The sentiment was inked with markers. A matching envelope was made out of Designer paper using the Simply Scored and Diagonal plate.

The big fluffy bow was made by wrapping the ribbon a few times around my hand, then tying a second piece of ribbon around the bow to keep it in place. Then, I glued it down on the card using glue dots.

My fourth project: Snowman Candy Holder
Tip: To center the oval opening on the candy holder, I punched an oval out of a post-it note and placed the punched piece on the cardtock where I wanted the opening to be. Using my punch upside down, I then placed the punch right over the Post-It not and punched again. Perfect placement!
