This card was the second card I created when I visited Brandi and the one where I felt I started getting my stride. I used the Joie des Fêtes set and decided to ink the Valentine sentiment this time. I flipped the sketch on its side to have the sentiment fit one of the panels. 

I liked the colours from the Berry Blossoms Designer papers and thought they would make an interesting Valentine's Day combo. I used two pieces of paper for the panels, and one on the back of the card. If you look closely at that one in the back, you'll notice I scored the left side and folded it over to show the backside of the paper, then I added a scallop edge made out of white cardstock. The flowery panel was decorated with pearls, my favorite detail on the card.

I colored the sentiment with markers and added touches of Smooch pearlized accent on parts of the image. I hadn't tried that item before and when I saw that Brandi had some, I was curious to give it a try. I like the soft shimmer it has and how easy it is to apply. The tip of the applicator is a thin felt tip (reminds me of liquid eyeliner), so it is very easy to apply in small doses and in tight spots. For the card base , I selected a background stamp I don't have at home, Très chic (now retired).

To mimick the oval in the sketch, I added two overlapped punched hearts and decorated them with a button and a bow. The largest heart was stamped with the heart from the Best Friends Forever set.

When I saw this week's colour combo, it reminded me of last year's SAB papers, Ice Cream Parlor, which I decided I would pull out for this project. Then, I remembered we had matching buttons as well, shaped like little flowers, which inspired me to pull out the Button Buddies set and use the vase image, which I hadn't inked yet.

I kept this fairly simple. I drew inspiration for the design from a Page Maps card sketch (September sketches) and mimicked the row of ribbons. I handcut the scallops at the bottom of the patterned paper and then I decided that the top of the card felt a little bare, so I added a strip of silver glimmer paper.

I still have some uninked stamps from like six months ago, which is a real shame, so I decided to put some mileage on them even though they are Christmas-themed. It's never too early to get started on Christmas production anyway, right?

I went all out and did some extensive paper piecing for this one. I wanted color and texture and in order for the design to look right, you have to paper piece the penguins and add them on top of the other paper even though they are cut out of the same color of cardstock because if you just cut around the chimney, the perspective doesn't look right. This means more work (especially hand cutting and gluing those tiny small feet!) but the result looks much better.

I added a bunch of details, which is why I added a close-up pic so you can see better. I paper pieced the three stockings out of patterned papers and added white velvet flocking to the cuff so that they are fluffy. I also used some Platinum Liquid Pearls for the nails. The top of the chimney was paper pieced out of the wooden sheet (doesn't it look great?) and I created a brick wall texture using a dark red marker on Riding Hood Red cardstock and used it to paper piece the rest of the chimney. It was easier to create the brick pattern first and then stamp the image rather than try to line bricks up on the handcut piece. I used a piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock for the inside of the chimney and even though I was planning on paper piecing the penguin hanging upside down inside with white cardstock, I liked how he looked on Chocolate Chip cardstock, like he is in the shade, so I just colored his hat with a dark red marker directly on the brown cardstock.

The sentiment comes from the Contempo Christmas set and it was inked with Baja Breeze and Old Olive markers. The papers are from the retired Holiday Treasure paper pack, which I got this Spring from the Clearance Rack. (I was psyched to see those papers there, because I had always regretted not getting them when they came out.) I added a sparkly metal frame and tied it around the card using Riding Hood Red taffeta ribbon (which is back in the cattie - yeah!). Two shimmer brads finish the card up.

Up in the Air

This was supposed to be my sketch card for the September Creative Crew challenges until I realized that the challenge also specified the card had to be holiday-themed! Since the hot air balloons do not really scream holiday, I redid the card into a Christmas version (which I shared HERE last week). I still think this one turned out really cute, though. I am absolutely loving this stamp set. It was one of the first ones I spotted in the new catalogue and I am really enjoying working with it.

The papers are from the adorable hostess pack from the catalogue (Cheerful Treat). The colors are so bright and cheerful - perfect with the balloons! For the sentiment, I used my Stamp punch and layered a windowpane over it. I used some grosgrain ribbon and our new mini silver brads to hold it in place. I die-cut one of the tags from the Two Tags die twice, out of two pieces of patterned paper and I shortened the tag when I glued the two pieces together so that it would fit on the card. I used one of the Bitty punches to punch out the flowers stamped with the set and added pearls in the center. The border was decorated with a piece of Silver glimmer paper that was die-cut with the Tasteful Trims die and I added two Lucky Limeade polka dot brads (can you tell I love those?).

Creative Crew #4 - Portrait

This is the first card I created for the September Creative Crew challenges and my favorite as well. I didn't have the Timeless Portrait papers so I drew inspiration from the gorgeous color combo. Since this month's theme is centered around transformation, I also used inspiration from a card found on page 61 of the Paper Crafts' Card Ideas for Paper Crafters publication (which I have two cards published in it - woo-hoo!). I drew from the overall design and framed portrait.

The seam binding was scrunched up and spritzed with Gold Smooch Spray. The silhouette was black-embossed and I created a negative mask to add En français in the background of the frame. I matted the frame with a punched tag from the Four Frames set.

I used the tree stamp in the background and the clock image on my Cherry Cobbler panel. The sentiment (which reads, "Happy Birthday"), was also embossed in black, and I wheeled the background with the Texture wheel. Every piece was sponged and I added a few pearls to complete the vintage look.

One of the perks from stamping with Brandi (besides stamping with Brandi!!) is that I got to play with stamp sets that I do not own and therefore are new to me. You might recognize this cute school set from a past minicatalogue. I always thought it was beyond adorable, but since it was only available in English, it didn't make it on my purchase list. The red, blue and green combo seemed perfect for a school-themed card and a natural match to this set.

My first idea was to turn the tag into a bookmark but I think through the process, I ended up forgetting about this idea and it ended up being glued on the card. (I blame the wine...) The sentiment is from the Petite Pairs set. The fact that the sentiments come as pairs allowed me to stamp them separately on two of the little notebook sheets and fill in the space.

Don't look too closely as my coloring. I used markers, which I rarely do to color in an image and I think you can tell. I'm thinking of adding a dab of Crystal Effects on the glasses to give them some shine. What do you think?

Creative Crew #3 - Rolled Cake

For my third Creative Crew challenge, which was to use the Domestic Goddess papers. The cooking theme of the papers inspired me to make a page about my mom's famous rolled cake. (And before anyone asks, no, I don't have an English version of the recipe...) The overall theme for the September challenges was transformation and drawing inspiration from somewhere and turning it into something SUO (Stampin' Up! only), so I leafed through an old copy of Scrapbooks Etc. and jotted down ideas that I wanted to try (tabs on side of picture, stitching around elements, heart chipboard).

I used one of the sheets of papers from the pack as is and decorated the bottom with a row of ustensils cutted out of another sheet. At the top, I added a piece of ruffle ribbon and used a windowpane on at as a ribbon charm, then glued a dotted brad on it using Dimensional foams. I printed the recipe using my printer and the RGB codes to make it match the paper. I printed the ingredients and instructions separately, so that I wouldn't have one big, bulky panel on my page. It allowed me to mat the two panels in different colours and use my border and corner punches on one of them. I added handstitching on both panels using yellow embroidery floss. I did a continuous stitch on one and little dashes on the other. I also added pearls between each scallops on the border. I covered a chipboard heart with Basic Grey ink and added Dazzling Details (our new glitter glue from the mini) on the top to mimick icing. The title was created using the Just Perfect Alphabet and the Timeless Type die. I added some white chalk on the grey die-cut letters to mimick sugar and a bit of Dazzling Details as well, and the Just Perfect letters were punched with the 1/2 Circle punch and added on punched pennants. Those pennants were hung on a piece of silver glimmer paper rickrack, on which I added a Pool Party button from the Spice Cake collection. Before gluing the button in place, I ran a scallop ribbon punched strip of paper through the crimper and used sticky strip to glue the ruffle underneath the button. I also used two narrow strips of paper to thread the button as well.

Creative Crew #2 - Young and in Love

This is my second sample for the September Creative Crew challenges. This one was inspired by the scrapbooking sketch. When looking at it, I noticed it used all of the colours from the Paisley Petals paper pack, so this was my starting point for this design. I pulled out some pictures that matched those colours (professional pictures that were taken of my sister and her boyfriend a couple of years ago).

The challenge called for a vintage or steam punk look to go along with the sketch, so I inked everything on the page to give it a vintage feel. I even rubbed my black StazOn ink pad against the edges of the pictures. The paisley flowers were handcut from a sheet of patterned paper and since we have two of each design, I cut the corner flower from the second sheet and layered it over the first one to give it some dimension.

The words were all stamped with the You're a Gem set, since they all fitted the love theme ("dream your life, live your dream," "Always," "Key to my Heart," etc.) I also hung a key trinket on the tag to match the sentiment.

In the top corner, I used the Mostly Vintage stencil with some Bravo Burgundy ink and I added a filigree brad in the center. The date was added using chipboard numbers from the Merry Medley kit.

A New Crew in Town!

You might have noticed a couple of weeks ago that a new logo appeared in the right-hand bar of my blog. I am super excited to report that I will be serving as part of the Creative Crew on Splitcoast Stampers from September to December of this year. The Creative Crew has been formed last year by members of SCS who wished to highlight creations that were made with Stampin' Up! products and encourage people to take part in challenges geared toward SUO (Stampin' Up! only) projects. While the details of the challenges are posted in the Demo section of the Website (which you need to register for to access), everyone is welcomed to have a look at the gallery, which always launches on the first of every month and everyone is also encouraged to join us in the challenges and submit your work as well, using the pertaining keywords.

Let me start by sharing my card which was inspired by this month's sketch. I used the PInes & Poinsettias set to stamp on the tag, which was die-cut out of Vanilla cardstock using the Two Tags die. The button and papers and from the Berry Bouquet suite and was paired with the Vanilla velvet ribbon (from the Holidays mini). I represented the buckle from the sketch with a windowpane framing another stamped image from the same set inked with markers.

The left border was created by running some red glimmer paper in the Big Shot using the Tasteful Trims die. The part you see if the leftover you get when die-cutting the rickrack. I also added glimmer brads and slid a punched Circle tab piece of paper in the slit from the die-cut tag. I stole this idea from the clever Carrie Gaskins, who never cease to amaze me with the details she dreams of. Speaking of the tag, it was too long to fit on the card at this angle, so I cut the bottom of and shortened it when I added the piece of patterned paper at the bottom. The sentiment banner was inked with markers, stamped and handcut, then popped up on Dimensionals.

Inkspirations #85 - Cheerful Cherries

  

  
 

I was looking at my stamps collection to figure out which one I'd use along with this set and decided I would ink up my new Button Buddies set (which I won through the So Shelli creative contest - woo-hoo!). I had every intention of adding buttons to the cherries, but they looked so cute stamped in red with the little light reflection on them that I decided to leave them unembellished. Well, that is, until I decided to add Crystal Effects to them to create a shiny look. I almost regret it a little because I know the Crystal Effects can sometimes change the ink colour underneath and this is what happens here. I had colored the image with markers and the cherries were a nice red shade that matched the papers perfectly, but after adding the Crystal Effects, the colour turned to a slightly more loud pinkish shade! It still works, but...

Notice those lovely papers I used? They're from the Berry Bouquet pack. They are presented in the Holidays mini as a Christmas paper pack, but really, if you use only the stripes, polka dots (which are glittered!!) and flowers, they will work for any occasion. The red button is from the same collection. The two pinked borders are leftover pieces from cutting rickrack out of glimmer paper using the Tasteful Trims die. No wasting of that gorgeous paper! The sentiment is from the new sentiment set Petite Pairs and reads, "Happy Birthday."

One detail that sort of gets lost in the picture is the embossed background. I stamped the Fine Flourish stamp all over the card base and embossed the image with clear powder for a delicate lace look.

Avez-vous vu le nouveau minicatalogue des Fêtes qui vient de sortir aujourd'hui? Ses 44 pages sont remplies de fabuleux nouveaux produits et avec la variété qui est inclut dans cette publication, je sais qu'il y aura de quoi pour plaire à tous les goûts et tous les styles.

Il m'a fallu faire preuve de retenue au moment de la précommande car ma liste de souhaits était longue comme la rue, mais j'ai pensé que je vous ferais un résumé de mes produits favoris pour vous aider à prioriser lorsque vous établirez votre propre liste d'achats.

 

1) Papier scintillant Argent

On avait le papier rouge depuis l'an dernier, on l'adorait et beaucoup de personnes avaient demandé à SU! de sortir de nouvelles couleurs. Ils nous ont écouté et nous avons maintenant une version argent du même papier. Je m'attendais à un argent similaire à notre poudre à embosser, mais la couleur se rapproche plus d'un beau blanc qui scintille de mille feux, ce qui rend ce nouveay papier très polyvalent. Il vous permet d'avoir le look des brillants sur votre projet sans en avoir partout dans les cheveux et le visage. Le papier peut être découpé aux ciseaux, au poinçon ou avec une découpe Big Shot.

 
 

 

2) Pluie irisée

Et voici une autre option pour ajouter facilement du brillant à vos projets. Cette colle brillante est vendue dans une petite bouteille à embout pointu qui vous permet d'ajouter des brillants sur votre projet à l'endroit désiré avec beaucoup de précision. Les brillants contenus sont iridescents et peuvent donc s'agencer à n'importe quelle combinaison de couleurs. Il faut laisser à la colle quelques minutes pour sécher, mais le résultat en vaut la peine.

 

 

3) Outil pour rainer Simply Scored

Une nouveauté très excitante du mini des Fêtes : notre tout nouveau outil à rainer officiel! Comme tous les produits SU!, cet outil est solide et conçu avec soin. Un stylet est inclut dans l'ensemble et se range directement sur l'outil dans une rainure spéciale au bas et des guides de plastique (également inclus) peuvent être ajoutés sur la règle de mesure au haut afin de vous aider à vous rappeler des mesures à rainer sur un projet! Les possibilités sont sans fin pour utiliser cet outil, mais il peut vous servir entre autres pour rainer vos bases de carte, pour faire des rosettes, des enveloppes, des cartes à palier, du plissage et plus encore!

 

 

4) Cadres-creuset et flocons de mica

Grâce aux nouveaux cadres-creusets, vous pouvez maintenant créer des petits cadres 3D (shaker box) sur vos projets en un tournemain! Et si vous vous demandez avec quoi remplir votre petit cadre à agiter, ne cherchez pas plus loin, car nous avons maintenant des flocons de mica! Ils sont légers et miroitant et ils peuvent être glissés dans un cadre ou même collés directement sur votre projet.

 

 

 

5) Bas de Noël : en veux-tu, en v'là!

Avez-vous vu toutes les options de bas de Noël disponibles dans le mini? Nous avons une découpe Big Shot, un poinçon et même un jeu d'ensemble assorti! Et je dois l'avouer, je les ai achetés tous les trois! J'aimais l'idée de la découpe car elle est assez grande pour y glisser une carte-cadeau ou des bonbons, et comme il s'agit d'une découpe Bigz, il est possible de l'utiliser pour découper du tissu ou du feutre! Et comme vous l'avez probablement deviné, le poinçon fonctionne de paire avec le jeu d'étampes Stitched Stockings et je sais à quel point vous aimez quand nous offrons un poinçons pour nos étampes! Le temps économisé avec un poinçon lors de l'assemblage de cartes est assez impresionnant, alors ce nouvel ensemble est parfait pour préparer nos cartes de Noël!

Si vous désirez avec une image assortie à votre poinçon mais que vous préférez acheter un jeu plus polyvalent qui vous servira toute l'année, je vous conseillerais le jeu Gift Givers. 6) Bordée d'accessoires

J'étais aux anges quand j'ai vu tous les nouveaux accessoires inclus dans le mini. Des boutons de différentes formes et couleurs, des mini clochettes, des décos en feutre, de magnifiques rubans de velours, une nouvelle couleur de poudre à embosser... sans compter les nouveaux papiers qui les accompagnent! Les accessoires sont une bonne façon d'ajouter la petite touche de finition à un projet et d'obtenir plusieurs looks différents pour un même jeu d'étampes en utilisant différents papiers et combinaisons de couleurs. Soit dit en passant, la photo du mini ne rend pas justice aux décorations de feutre, qui sont mignonnes à souhait. Vous rappelez-vous des décorations de feutre Pois de senteur de l'an dernier? Celles de cette année sont tout aussi super! 

J'aimerais aussi souligner le fait que bien que les papiers Pain d'épice sont montrés en exemple avec des projets d'automne, leurs motifs sont de style bohémiens et appropriés pour n'importe quel thème et période de l'année. Un bon investissement... Et les boutons assortis (qui, soit dit en passant, sont gigantesques! Ils font 1-1/2 po de diamètre) sont magnifiques et ajoutent une très belle touche de finition à vos projets.

Si vous vous interrogez sur la couleur de la poudre à embosser Étain, elle est similaire à la poudre argent, mais avec une touche de doré au travers. Difficile à décrire, mais j'ai fait un échantillon comparatif que je pourrai vous montrer à mon prochain cours ou atelier. Maintenant que j'ai fait plusieurs échantillons avec cette poudre, je dois avouer qu'elle est en voie de devenir ma couleur favorite.

 

 

 

 
 
 
 
 
 

  

  

 

7) Nouveaux souhaits français

Je suis très heureuse des nouveaux jeux de souhaits qui viennent de sortir, car ils sont complètement différents de tous les autres que l'on a vu auparavant. Le jeu Notes manuscrites ressemble à du texte écrit à la main et est élégant et unique. J'aime aussi le look naïf du jeu Joie des Fêtes. SU! a offert plusieurs jeux à pictogrammes au fil des années, mais c'est la première fois que nous en avons un offert en français, ce qui m'enchante! Il couvre l'Halloween, Noël et la St-Valentin, alors il vous servira pour différentes occasions.

Voici un petit truc amusant pour utiliser ce jeu. Vous remarquerez que les boutons Wasabi insoumis du la collection de boutons Belles baies de houx sont juste de la bonne grosseur pour être insérés dans le "o" du mot Joyeux. Et mieux encore : si vous regardez le bouton de près, on dirait une petite couronne de Noël! Quel bonheur!

 

  

 

 

N'oubliez pas que le mini contient aussi un nouveau jeu d'hôtesse. Bien que nous entamions l'année et que vous n'avez probablement pas encore fait le tour des jeux d'hôtesse du catalogue qui sont sur votre liste, je vous rappelle que si vous aimez le jeu d'hôtesse du mini, vous n'avez que quatre mois pour vous le procurer. C'est un joli jeu pour l'automne et les Fêtes et voici une autre raison de l'aimer : il s'agence à nos poinçons, incluant le poinçon hibou!! J'ai bien hâte de mettre la main sur une copie de ce jeu parce que le hibou avec son petit masque d'Halloween me plaît vraiment beaucoup!

2011 Holidays Minicatalogue Tour

Have you seen the new Holidays minicatalogue that came out today? Its 44 pages are jam-packed with new fabulous products and with the various product lines offered, there's sure to be something for every style.

I've had to restrained myself from buying everything I liked and stick to a budget, which is why I thought I'd share a summary of my favorite new products to help you make your choices and get your wish list to a manageable (and realistic) order list.

 

1) Silver shimmer paper

You've seen the red shimmer paper, you've loved using it and now SU! has listened to our request for more colours and came out with a silver shimmer paper pack! I was expecting it to be a silver similar to our silver fine glitter, but it is actually more like a beautiful sparkly white color with a hint of silver, making it a very versatile product. It gives you the high shine of glitter without the mess. It is cutable, punchable and die-cutable.

 
 

 

2) Dazzling Details

This is another way to add glitter to a project without the mess. This glittery glue comes in a bottle with a very thin nozzle that allows you to add gliter to any part of your project, big or small. The glitter is opalescent and therefore works with any project and any color combo. You have to allow a few minutes for drying time, but the result is worth it.

 

 

3) Simply Scored Scoring Board

Presenting you one of the exciting new products introduced in the Holidays mini: our very own scoring board! Like all of the other SU! products, it's sturdy and very-well thought out. It comes with its own stylus that clips at the bottom of the scoring board so that you don't lose it and plastic markers that can be added on the ruler at the top to remember where you want to make your score lines! Brilliant, right? I've yet to explore all of the wonderful projects I can make with this new tool, but among other things, you can use it to score your cards or make rosettes, hand-made envelopes, sidestep cards, pleating and more!

 

 

4) Shaker frames and mica flakes

With the introduction of those new shaker frames, making round shaker boxes have never been easier! And if you're looking for something to put in the shaker box, look no further than the mini, as SU! has also introduced mica flakes as well. Soft, fluffy and shimmery, they can be slipped in the shaker boxes or glued directly on a project.

 

 

 

5) Stockings, Stockings, Stockings!

Have you seen all of the cute stocking options offered this season? We have a die, we have a punch and we have a matching stamp set for it. And, yes, I'll 'fess up to it: I got it all. I liked the idea of the die because it's a great size to make a gift card holder or candy holder, and since it's a Bigz die, you can use it to cut through fabric or felt! As for the stamp set, you've probably guessed that it's the perfect match to the punch and I know how much you all love your punch-stamps combo! Isn't it incredible how much time you can actually save when you can punch images instead of hand-cuting them?

If you like having a matching image for the stocking punch but would prefer to have a more versatile stamp set that you'll be able to use all year long, check out the Gift Givers set. This set covers Christmas, Thanksgiving, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Halloween, Valentine's Day and winter. 6) Embellishments bonanza

I was in stamping heaven when I saw all of the new embellishments that were added to this mini. Buttons in all kinds of sizes and colors, mini jingle bells, felt accents, luscious velvet ribbons, Pewter embossing powder... and of course, new patterned papers to match! Embellishments are great finishing touch to any project and remember that you can create a lot of different looks out of one single stamp set by simply matching it to different pattern papers or color combo. By the way, the picture in the mini doesn't do justice to the gorgeous felt embellishments. Remember the cute Sweet Peas felt embellies we had last year? Those are just as awesome!!

I would like to point out that even though the Spice Cake Designer papers are showcased on fall projects, they really have more of a Boho feel to them and could definitely be used all year long and even on masculine cards, maybe paired with a cowboy image or something like that. Definitely a worthy investment. And those big buttons that come with them (in mean, huge - they are 1-1/2 in. in diameter!) are just beautiful and add a unique touch to your projects.

If you are curious about which colour the pewter powder is, it is similar to Silver, but more tone down and with a bit of a yellow undertone to it. Hard to describe, but I have made a comparison chart that I would love to show you at my next class or workshop. 7) New French sentiment stamps

I am really excited about the new French sentiment stamps, because they are different from anything we've ever had before. The Notes manuscrites set has a handwritten look that's totally elegant and will stand out on any project. You'll also love the whimsical look of Joie des Fêtes. SU! has offered different pictogram words sets over the year, but it is the first time they have one available in French! I am totally stocked about it! It covers Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day, so you'll be able to use it for three different occasions.

Here's a cool tip for you: Notice that wreath on the "Joyeux"? The wasabi buttons from the Holly Berry Bouquet collection fit perfectly on it and the design even looks like a little scallop wreath. Pure perfection!

 

 

 

Don't forget that the mini also includes a new hostess set as well. Even though the catalogue year is just starting out, I doubt you've had time to get sick of the hostess sets yet but if you do like the mini hostess set, don't forget to work it into your wish list before December, when it will retire for good. It's a cute set for fall and I'll give you one more reason to like it: it matches four of our exclusive punches, including the cute owl punch!!! I can't wait to snag a set for myself 'cos I love that cute masked little rascal!
