For today's card, I combined the Pals Paper Arts sketch (#103) with some paper scraps from a retired pack (Christmas Cocoa) from last year. I cleaned up the mess in my scrap room yesterday and put some order in my paper folders. I put aside some paper packs that are litterally down to a few paper scraps. I never want to throw those away when the scraps are still big enough to cover at least a card base, and I have about a dozen paper packs that are really close to being done. I would love to finish them off to make room for new papers from the 2011-2012 cattie, but I swear, even after making today's card, there are still enough scraps left to make at least a couple of cards.
Anyway, when I saw the PPA sketch, it looked to me like a tryptich card with a panel that you slide under an accent to keep closed. I don't know if that was the initial intent behind the sketch, but I decided right away that's what I would make with it. Since the papers I was using are Christmas-themed, I decided to use the Pennant Parade as Christmas trees since I hadn't used the set this way yet.
When doing a half-front card like that, the space to write a message inside is fairly limited, so I decided to use the inside of the panel to add a sentiment from the Delightful Dozen, a great all-occasion sentiment set that came out in the new catalogue. I stamped it on a retired Love Note die-cut and embossed a frame around using the new Designer Label embossing folder.
I used rhinestone brads at the top of the card, but I cut off the prongs and glued them in place with mini glue dots to avoid having the prongs show on the back of the card.
The decorated circle was glued in place with Stampin' Dimensionals so that the panel can be slid more easily underneath, and I decorated the center with a ribbon bow, a brown button and a shimmer brad in the center.
