The card I am sharing today was inspired by some chipboard pieces I had in my stash and last week's Cat Pajamas sketch challenge. There is actually a funny story behind the chipboard pieces.
Over a year ago, I was chatting with my mom on the phone and she told me she had some "scrapbooking supplies" for me that she had received as a free gift with a purchase at the Dollar store. I figured it would be some uninteresting knicknacks and didn't think much of it. Then, when I visited her, she pulled the kits out and I about fell out of my chair. The scrapbook kit she had received included six chipboard alphabet boxes from K&Company as well as some matching dimensionals flowers. Those kits are usually sold for like $8 apiece, so I couldn't believe that she had received a kit valued at $60+ for her $5.45 purchase. Better yet, after leaving the store, she remembered she had forgotten to buy something so when she went back to the cash register to pay for her additional item, the clerk told her she could have a second free scrapbook kit if she wanted.
I seriously could not believe my eyes and couldn't understand how the store could give those for free. Upon further inspection, I discovered that some of the pieces had been misaligned during production and that the printing on some of the letters wasn't perfectly centered. I can see how that would be a problem when you are paying full price, but those pieces are certainly still usable despite the little quality issue. I've been using the letters on some of my scrapbook pages since then, but the images had been left unused in the box because I wasn't sure what to create with them. I found some little dresses in one of the boxes and thought it could make a cute "It's a girl!" card so after having the dresses out on my work table for a few weeks, I finally put the idea to paper.
The big rickrack border was created with the new Tasteful Trims die from the Holidays mini, my new favorite die. Remember how I am trying to convince Brandi that she needs it? Well, here's an additional sample for you, Brandi!
The outside of the circle was hand stitched with some needlepoint floss before I adhered it to my card base. I added rhinestones to the dresses, a few buttons, my sentiment and I was done! This was another good opportunity to look through my paper stash and use some paper scraps that matched the chipboard dresses.
