My good friend Brandi was hostess to a series of challenges for demonstrators on SCS this month and I was so happy that she had been picked to host that I had to take part in the fun and make a project. One of her challenges was to scrapbook in 8½ x 11, which is a format often overlooked by a lot of scrapbookers. I to like to dabble in this format once in a while, so I made this two-page layout right here with pictures taken during my stay in Orlando. We were having dinner at Uno on our last night there and this guy came over to our table and entertained us with balloon creations and stories to match. He made a diamond ring for Terry and a pink flamingo (what else?) for me.
The Pink Flamingo Designer papers have been the perfect complement to my Florida pictures and I am already down to a few scraps. I can't believe I might finish this pack before it retires from the catalogue. Unheard of for me! I guess you do go through a pack of papers more quickly when you make 12 x 12 pages with it rather than just cards. Anyway, I started out by using the Cutting Kit to follow the pattern on the paper and cut a wavy border. Then I flipped the paper around and used the rest of the paper (the flowery part of create a second wave underneath the first one. I sprayed my Pretty in Pink cardstock with a mix of Champagne Mist shimmer paint and alcohol spray to give it better definition against the papers, and then I used the paper scraps to create the scallop border on top (made with the use of the Slit punch and the 1/8 handheld punch). To create the ruffle underneath the wave, I ran a strip of patterned paper in the crimper and then I put Tacky Tape all along the underside of the paper and glued the paper ruffle underneath my paper. Running it through the crimper first breaks the paper fibers and make it more pliable when you're shaping it into place. I also accented the flowers from the patterned paper by adding Crystal Effects and clear chunky glitter to their centers.
I was looking at my chipboard alphabets to create my title and since they've already been used a few times, all of the good letters are missing. I'm sure you know what I mean - once the e's, the i's and the o's are gone, it's like you can't spell anything anymore! So I put my thinking cap on and looked at which letters I could modify to create the letters I needed. The M became an N but cutting a leg off. The J became the I, by cutting the lower part off. And the A became the E by cutting the leg off and turning it around. The D and R I already had, so I was able to spell what I needed to. Those letters were covered with Tempting Turquoise Craft ink, and the Ampersand was covered with patterned paper and sanded. Then the rest of the title was cut out with the use of the Naturally Serif die (which you absolutely need if you're a scrapbooker - perfect size for longer title or limited space). On my title, I added a stamped flamingo to stay with the theme. This is actually an image from an old SU! stamp set that actually predates my stamping days, but that I have received in a card kits swap. It was the perfect accent for this page, so even though it is retired, I just went for it. I had already used the retired Love Note die-cut on my journaling block anyway (although I do hope those die-cuts do come back in the next catalogue, they're just so versatile!).
At the bottom of the journaling tag, I added a ticket stamped with the Admit It hostess set. I just love those cute coupons - they're the perfect-sized accent for my pages and even on cards. I'm surprised we haven't seen more of it online this year. I think this is just one of these sets that you don't really that notice of in the catalogue, but fall in love with when you see it used on a project. Technically, the image on the ticket is an owl, but really, if you color it pink, then it's more of a pink bird, so I guess it works... Right?! Lol!
I am warning you before you scroll down, this page is really pink! And I am not usually a pink kind of girl, but somehow, this layout really works for me! Maybe because we had such a great time that evening that the pictures remind me of that. Or maybe because the LO turned out exactly like I had hoped, which is unfortunately always the case. Either way, I'll let you judge for yourselves and see if you are as tickled pink as I am with the result...
Inspiration : Sketch Page Maps
Mon amie Brandi a été nommée hôtesse d'une série de défis sur Splitcoast Stampers ce mois-ci et j'étais si contente pour elle que j'ai décidé de me lancer et d'en faire au moins quelques-uns. Un des défis était de faire une page en 8½ x 11. Pas de problème! Pour remédier à ma petite baisse d'inspiration récente, j'ai imprimé les sketchs de scrapbooking du site Page Maps et j'ai fait une double page avec des photos prises l'an dernier en Floride. Nous sommes allées souper toutes ensemble au Uno lors de notre dernière soirée à Orlando et nous y avons été diverties par un gars qui a créé une bague en diamant et un flamand rose (quoi d'autre!) avec des ballons.
Les papiers de la série Flamand rose ont vraiment été le complément idéal à mes photos de Floride et il ne m'en reste que quelques retailles. Arriverai-je à terminer le paquet au complet avant la fin du catalogue? Ça serait bien une première... Je crois que la raison pour laquelle le paquet s'est vidé très rapidement est que je l'ai utilisé principalement pour créer des pages en 12 x 12 (et quelques cartes également au travers), alors le papier est utilisé beaucoup rapidement sur ce grand format qu'en faisant uniquement des cartes.
Ceci dit, j'ai utilisé la trousse de coupe pour couper le papier en vague en suivant le motif déjà imprimé et les retailles (soit le haut du papier) pour créer une seconde épaisseur sous la première découpe. J'ai vaporisé les cartons Joli rose servant de base de page avec un mélange d'alcool à friction et de peinture chatoyante Brume de champagne) pour créer une meilleure définition avec les papiers et aussi parce que j'ai tout ce qui brille! Puis, j'ai utilisé la lisière qui me restait pour créer la bordure festonnée au haut de mes pages. Les festons ont été créés avec le poinçon Fente et les trous avec le poinçon à main 1/8 po. Pour créer le volant sous mon papier à motifs, j'ai utilisé une bande de papier turquoise que j'ai passé dans la crêpeuse pour le rendre plus malléable. J'ai appliqué de la bande adhésive sous le papier et j'ai collé la bande de papier en la froissant. J'ai ensuite décoré les fleurs du papier à motifs en appliquant du Crystal Effects et des brillants charnus transparents au centre.
J'ai sorti mes alphabets de chipboard pour créer mon titre et comme plusieurs des lettres ont déjà été utilisées sur d'autres projets, je commence à être limitée dans ce que j'arrive à épeler. J'ai quand même réussi à contourner le problème en transformant des lettres pour qu'elles correspondent à ce dont j'avais besoin. J'ai coupé une patte à un M pour le transformer en N. J'ai coupé un J pour qu'il devienne un I et j'ai tourné un A à l'envers et je lui ai coupé un bout de patte pour le transformer en E. Les lettres ont ensuite été recouvertes d'encre Craft Tentation turquoise et le symbole & a été recouvert de papier à motifs et sablé. Le reste du titre a été créé avec la découpe Naturally Serif (un must si vous aimez faire du scrapbook). J'ai ensuite ajouté sur mon titre une image de flamand rose qui provient d'un ancien jeu de SU! d'il y a plusieurs années. J'ai reçu cette image dans une échange de trousses de cartes et elle semblait parfaite pour ma page. Ce jeu n'est plus en cours, mais de toute façon, j'ai aussi utilisé une découpe Transmission d'amour du minicatalogue Occasions qui n'est plus en cours non plus (bien que j'espère fortement que ces découpes reviendront dans le prochain catalogue, car elles sont très pratiques!)
Au bas de mon bloc de texte, j'ai ajouté une étiquette étampée avec le jeu Billet doux. J'adore ces mignons petits coupons, qui ajoutent la touche parfaite à une page ou une carte. Je suis surprise de ne pas avoir vu plus de projets faits avec ce jeu. Je crois que c'est le genre d'étampes qu'on ne remarque pas nécessairement dans le catalogue, mais qui gagnent à être vues en action sur un projet. Techniquement, c'est une image de hibou qu'on voit sur le coupon, mais en le colorant en rose, ça peut toujours passer pour un petit flamand rose, avec bien de l'imagination...
Disons que le résultat est rose longtemps! Et je n'aime pas le rose tant que ça normalement, mais j'avoue que je suis bien contente du résultat, probablement parce que la page est sortie exactement comme je l'avais imaginée, ce qui n'est malheureusement pas le cas pour toutes mes créations.
