It's been a long time coming, but here are some pics of my week in Salt Lake City for Convention.

I flew to SLC on Tuesday. I was lucky enough to get a flight directly from Quebec City this year and didn't have to drive to Montreal. What I didn't know, though, is that we don't have International Customs at the Quebec City airport, so I was warned I would have to find my luggage in Chicago and lug it through customs there myself, then hand it back for it to be put on the plane.
Not a problem - except that the first flight was slightly delayed since we were waiting for the plane to get here. This shortened my time to catch my connection in Chicago, where I had to find my luggage, go through customs, hand back the luggage, ride the tram to change terminal, grab a sandwich, stop at the lady's room and rush to the gate - where they were already announcing the final boarding call when I got there!
We got to SLC a little early and I waited by the carrousel to get my luggage. And waited and waited until the carrousel stopped, with no red luggage in sight. *sigh* I went to the info booth and was told that Chicago had already informed them that my luggage hadn't made it on the plane with me. Grr! Thank God I had the good sense of putting a change of clothes and my PJs in my carry-on! And yes, for those wondering, it WAS United that was my carrier...
But this explains why you see me here at Riverton, in 30 degree heat with jeans and sneakers instead of capris and sandals... And with no make-up on, either!
Je suis partie pour SLC le mardi. J'ai été chanceuse pour me trouver un vol partant directement de Québec cet année, ce qui m'a évité de devoir conduire jusqu'à Montréal. Par contre, je ne savais pas qu'il n'y avait pas de douanes américaines à Québec, alors on m'a avisé que je devrais retrouver ma valise à Chicago et passer les douanes avec là-bas, puis la replacer sur un chariot après afin qu'elle soit retournée sur l'avion. Pas de problème - sauf que le premier vol a été retardé car nous attendions notre avion pour pouvoir embarquer. Cela a raccourci le temps disponible à Chicago, où j'ai eu à trouver ma valise, passer les douanes, redonner la valise, prendre le tram pour changer de terminal, ramasser un sandwich, faire un arrêt à la salle des bavassements et courir jusqu'à ma porte d'embarquement, où on annonçait déjà l'embarquement final quand je suis arrivée! Nous sommes arrivés à SLC avec un peu d'avance et j'ai attendu patiemment que le carrousel se mette en marche. J'ai regardé défilé toutes les valises jusqu'à ce que le carrousel se vide et s'arrête, sans aucune valise rouge en vue. Après un long soupir, je me suis donc dirigée au comptoir des renseignements, pour me faire dire que Chicago avait déjà avisé que ma valise ne s'était pas rendue à l'avion à temps et qu'elle était toujours à Chicago. Grr! Heureusement, j'avais pensé à traîner mon pyjama et un gilet de rechange dans mon bagage à main. Et pour celles qui se le demandent, c'était effectivement United qui était mon transporteur aérien... Cela explique donc pourquoi je suis en jeans et en espadrilles alors qu'il fait 30 degrés Celcius à l'extérieur pendant ma visite à Riverton... Et sans maquillage non plus!
Speaking about which, the Riverton office was still opened for visit this year, but the transportation was not provided. My sidelines and I had planned on renting a car and driving there together, but apparently, we were not the only ones that had planned on doing that because we couldn't find a single rental car anywhere. We ended up bargaining with a taxi to drive us there for a flat fee. The cabbie had agree to wait for us there and drive us back, but I guess he got tired of waiting after a while, because when we came out, he had already taken off without us! We had bumped into our friend Maggie at the main office, and she offered to drive us back, but she had four spots and there were five of us. After a little bit of deliberation, some nice ladies offered to drive two of the girls back with them, so we all made it back to SLC without a hitch.
Although I had seen the beautiful office last year, it was nice to go back again and chat with the Demo Support operators. Joey and Jamie are the ones who answer the French calls, and we spent a good 20 minutes chatting up with them. I totally forgot to take a picture with them, though!
Parlant de Riverton, le bureau chef était encore ouvert aux visites cette année, mais le transport n'était pas fourni cette fois. Les filles de mon équipe et moi avions planifié de prendre une voiture de location pour nous y rendre, mais il ne restait plus aucune voiture de disponible cette semaine-là. Nous avons donc négocié un tarif avec un taxi pour nous y rendre (c'est un bon 40 minutes sur l'autoroute). Une fois rendu là-bas, le chauffeur a convenu de nous attendre, mais visiblement, il a trouvé le temps trop long et a décidé de repartir sans nous car il n'était plus là ;a notre sortie. Notre amie Maggie nous avait rejoint là-bas et elle avait une auto avec elle. Elle nous a offert de nous ramener, mais il y avait quatre places de libre et cinq filles, alors après plusieurs délibérations, nous avons finalement rencontré deux gentilles dames qui avaient de la place dans leur voiture et qui ont offert de ramener deux des filles avec elles. Même si j'avais eu la chance de voir le magnifique bureau l'an dernier, j'étais quand même contente de pouvoir retourner voir nos opérateurs de la ligne de Soutien aux démonstratrices. Joey et Jamie, nos deux opérateurs français, étaient là et ont pris le temps de jaser avec nous pendant un bon vingt minutes. J'ai complètement oublié de me faire photographier avec eux, par contre!
The wait at Memento Mall this year was insane! It took three hours to get in and an additional hour in line to pay! The goodies were worth the wait, though - SU! had a great selection of affordable products this year. I came out with some fabric totes (my fave product of the bunch), a Christmas ornament (which is great because I have started the tradition of buying one or two fancy ornaments every year to slowly grow my collection and build memories around those), pens, sanding files, and the Razzle Dazzle hoodie. I don't really have any SU! clothes and the ones usually offered rarely fit me, so I decided this is one garnment I could get a lot of use of, even outside of SU! events.
L'attente pour Memento Mall cette année était débile! Ça nous a pris trois heures avant de pouvoir entrer et une autre heure à attendre pour payer! Les produits valaient l'attente, par contre. SU! avait une superbe sélection d'articles à prix abordables. Je me suis procuré de jolis sacs de tissu (mon article favori cette année), une décoration de Noël (j'en fait une collection - j'en achète une ou deux de spéciales à chaque année), des crayons, des limes à ongle et une veste avec le motif du jeu Razzle Dazzle. Je ne possède pas encore de vêtements SU! et ceux qu'ils offrent ne sont généralement pas coupés pour moi, mais j'ai décidé que celui-ci pourrait être porté souvent, même en-dehors des événements SU!
SU! has recently announced that the Digital Studio software will be ready for release in the near future. Unfortunately, another piece of information released at the same time was that the software would not be available in Quebec due to the fact that it is only sold in English. (On a side note, if you are as bummed as I am about this news, please take a few minutes to e-mail Stampin' Up! about this and express your interest in this product. They have always been good at listening to us in the past and will probably take the necessary measures to get this product to us if enough people express their interest in it.) I was keeping my fingers crossed that they might give some away at Convention and that I could win one there... My wristband was orange stripes and I kept telling my friends, "Orange is going to win the software, I'm tellin' ya!" Sure enough, Brent Steele demo'ed the FABULOUS new software, he asked if we wanted to win it, they drew a colour for Prize Patrol and guess which colour won...
SU! a récemment annoncé que le logiciel My Digital Studio serait disponible sous peu. Malheureusement, ils nous ont laissé savoir du coup que le logiciel ne serait pas vendu au Québec puisqu'il n'est disponible qu'en anglais. (J'en profite pour faire appel à votre aide : si vous êtes déçues de cette annonce, je vous demande de bien vouloir prendre quelques minutes pour envoyer un courriel à SU! et leur exprimer votre intérêt pour ce produit. SU! est toujours ouvert à nos commentaires et je crois que les mesures nécessaires pour nous fournir ce produit seront prises si nous sommes un assez grand nombre à manifester notre intérêt.) Je souhaitais très fort pour qu'ils fassent tirer des logiciels à la convention afin que je puisse en gagner un pendant l'événement... Mon bracelet pour les prix était orange et je ne cessais de répéter à la blague à mes amies, « Regardez bien cela, ils vont tirer la couleur orange pour le logiciel... » Le FABULEUX logiciel a effectivement été présenté par Brent Steele lors de la convention (je bave encore à penser à tout ce que l'on peut créer avec cet outil!) et à la fin de la présentation, il a annoncé que c'était le temps de faire tirer des prix et devinez quelle couleur est sortie...
I think the picture says it all! Yes, I was a happy gal! They told us that the software wasn't quite ready just yet and that they would mail it to us when it was. This is where the excitement level went down a notch. I went to the Info Booth and despite my best shot at pleading, was told that they absolutely could not send it to me OR to a demo friend in Ontario, either. That was when my excitement took a nose dive. The good news is that I am getting a $107 shopping spree instead. I won't lie - I am still bummed about not getting that software, though!

Ils nous ont ensuite expliqué que le logiciel était rendu à l'étape des vérifications et que le tout nous serait expédié à la maison une fois prêt. C'est à ce moment que mon excitation a commencé à faire une chute libre. Je me suis rendue au kiosque d'information et malgré mon air piteux et mes meilleurs efforts pour les convaincre, les employées n'ont jamais accepté de me l'envoyer chez moi ou même chez une amie en Ontario. On m'a offert en guise d'équivalent un certificat-cadeau de 107 $ en matériel de mon choix, ce qui m'a un peu consolée, bien que je sois encore très déçue de ne toujours pas avoir le logiciel!
To take my mind off of things, I went to have a look at the displays. I have sent a few entries for SU's Wow contest in the past, without any luck, so I kept an eye out when looking at the displays and spotted not one, but two of my samples! This is the first time I ever spot my work at an event, so it definitely brought a smile to my face!
Pour me changer les idées, je suis allée voir les babillards. Cela fait quelques fois que je tente ma chance pour les concours WOW mensuels de SU!, mais je n'ai pas jusqu'à présent rien gagné. Je sais que les cartes des concours se retrouvent parfois sur les tableaux d'affiche, alors j'ai jeté un oeil pour voir si je ne verrais pas quelque chose de familier et j'ai finalement remarqué non pas une, mais bien deux de mes cartes! C'est la première fois que mon travail est affiché lors d'un événement, alors cela m'a redonné le sourire.
Before the Award Night, we all went to a nearby restaurant to grab a bite. I asked the waiter if he would be kind enough to take a picture of all of us together, which he did, and as I was looking at the pics he had taken to be sure they were good, I totally cracked up when I saw this:
Avant la soirée de remise des prix, nous sommes allées souper ensemble au resto. J'ai demandé au serveur s'il aurait l'amabilité de bien vouloir nous photographier ensemble. Une fois la photo prise, j'y ai jeté un oeil pour m'assurer que tout le monde y était et je suis partie à rire en voyant la photo :

Avez-vous remarqué notre invitée-surprise en arrière-fond? Je n'ai pas pu m'empêcher d'aller la voir pour jaser, et Brandi m'a photographiée avec ma nouvelle amie Christa, de l'Illinois. Ce n'est pas long que l'on se fait plein de nouvelles amies dans ces événements... Même au restaurant!
The dinner went a little long, and some of us sneaked in the ceremony a little late. I was really looking forward to seeing Tonic Sol-Fa perform again this year, as I had totally fallen in love with their music and charming ways last year. They didn't disappoint this year, either! All of my comrades took off to the hotel after the show, but I stayed behind to get a little souvenir of the event for my scrapbook. (Hmm, the background in the picture reminds me of the plywood in my parents' basement! Not the best background...)
Le souper a tiré en longueur, et certaines d'entre nous nous sommes rendues à la cérémonie par la suite. Nous sommes arrivées en retard, alors nous nous sommes assises dans les estrades à l'arrière. J'avais très hâte de voir Tonic Sol-Fa à nouveau, car j'avais beaucoup aimé leur spectacle l'an dernier. Ils sont revenus en force encore cette année! Mes comparses ont quitté après le spectacle pour retourner à l'hôtel, mais je suis restée pour aller chercher un petit souvenir pour mon scrapbook. (Soit dit en passant, l'arrière-fond de la photo n'est pas terrible. Ça me rappelle le contreplaqué dans la cave chez mes parents...)

I was hoping to run into some of my online friends at the event and was lucky enough to do so. One of them is Connie Collins, who you might know from her Constantly Stamping blog (linked in my Faves). Even though we were both in Track 4, we never bumped into each other so I gave her a call on Saturday and we agreed to meet during lunchtime. We must have chatted for a good 15 minutes, but it felt like time flew by too quickly! She's just a sweetheart and I hope I get to see here again at future events. I do have one of her beautiful swap cards to remember her by!
J'espérais rencontrer quelques amies de blogues et j'ai eu la chance que cela se concrétise. L'une d'elles est Connie Collins, dont je visite le blogue régulièrement (Constantly Stamping, indiqué dans mes favoris à droite). Bien que nous étions toutes les deux dans les mêmes classes, nous ne nous sommes pas croisées de la semaine alors le samedi, je lui ai lâché un coup de fil et nous nous sommes données rendez-vous sur l'heure du lunch. Nous avons jasé un bon quinze minutes, mais le temps a passé trop vite! Elle est super sympathique et j'espère que l'on pourra se revoir à de futurs événements. J'ai une de ses superbes cartes en souvenir!
While we were chatting together, the other Cattie Cruise blog hop participants came to meet with Connie to take a groupe picture. And guess who was among the bunch... Angie Tieman! You might remember Angie from when she was a Guest Designer for the weekly challenges last Spring. She is one talented stamper (as recognized by SU! again this year in the Artisan Award contest) and always takes the time to leave very sweet comments on my projects! The second redhead in the picture is the equally talented Brandi Wiggins, one of my downline member (which I very proudly brag about anytime I can!).
Pendant que nous jasions ensemble, les filles qui ont fait le tour de blogues Cattie Cruise avec Connie sont venues la rejoindre pour prendre des photos et devinez qui figurait dans le lot... Une autre amie virtuelle que j'espérais rencontrer : Angie Tieman! Angie a été une des mes artistes invitées au printemps dans le cadre des défis hebdomadaires. Son talent a été reconnu par SU! encore une fois cette année dans le cadre du concours Artisan Award, où elle figure parmi les dix gagnantes. Figurant aussi dans la photo est Brandi Wiggins, une des talentueuses membres de ma filiation (ce dont je suis très fière!).

I also bumped into (okay, stalked!) Mary Fish at the end of the last General Session. She walked on stage for her impressive recruiting achievements and I saw her sit back down near where we were sitting so I went over the say hi once the session was over. She's been another one of my beloved Guest Designers last Spring. (No photo of this encounter to share, though!)
À la fin de la dernière session, j'ai reconnu Mary Fish dans l'audience, alors je suis allée lui dire un petit bonjour en passant. Mary a également été l'une de mes artistes invitées au printemps dernier.
Another meeting that was set out at lunch that day was the Control Freak Swappers get-together. The group members that were attending Convention agreed to meet for lunch and we swapped cards while we were there. Wendy was standing on a chair holding out a sign so we could all find each other and Thurl, one of the Board members, walked by. To say this guy is tall would be an understatement...
Une autre rencontre (organisée et non fortuite, cette fois) a eu lieu au dîner samedi, avec les membres des Control Freaks. Les membres du groupe qui assistaient à la convention ont dîné ensemble et nous avons organisé une échange de cartes entre nous. Wendy était debout sur une chaise, tenant une pancarte afin que nous trouvions la table où nous rejoindre et Thurl, un membre du Comité d'administration, est passé à côté d'elle, ce qui a donné lieu à la photo ci-desous. Vous remarquerez que même debout sur la chaise, Wendy est quand même plus petite que lui...

Every year, SU! has a game show where demos compete on stage. This year was a mock-up of Family Feud, called Demo Duel. My favorite part might be the commercials they play in between each round. Some of them have been filmed by demonstrators and some of them by SU! Last year, they had the very memorable "Convention Barbie" one, featuring UPS Ken. This year, they had quite a few good ones. Here are my favorites:
Chaque année, SU! organise un quiz basé sur une émission de télé dans laquelle des démonstratrices sont appelées à répondre à diverses questions. Cette année, le quiz Demo Duel était basé sur la Guerre des clans. Je crois que ma partie favorite était les « pauses commerciales » qui mettaient en vedette des vidéos filmés par SU! et par des démonstratrices. L'année dernière, il y avait eu la très mémorable vidéo de la Barbie Convention et de Ken en livreur UPS. Cette année, voici quelques-uns de mes favoris, qui m'ont bien fait rire :

Et le meilleur a été gardé pour la fin. Car les vacances ne sont pas terminées tant que l'on n'est pas de retour à la maison...
I came back home on Sunday - no, Monday. Well, Sunday AND Monday. You see, it took me four planes and two days to get back home. I was supposed to have two connexions on Sunday (in Denver and then Toronto), but due to thunderstorms in Toronto, we could not land. We circled the city amidst the storm for an hour until the captain finally decided to land in Buffalo to get some fuel. Then, the storm followed us there and it took another hour before the rain subsided enough for the crew to get some fuel to the plane. We went back to Toronto and then when we got there, four hours late, they timidly announced that the automatic door was stuck and that we could not walk out of the plane until they had fixed it. At that point, people on the plane just bursted out laughing because it was just so ridiculous! It took another 15 minutes before they managed to get us out. They kept thanking us for being so calm and understanding and I have to admit that the people were surprisingly calm and polite through it all. Nobody complained, the kids on board did not cry - it was all pretty impressive.
But of course, because of the delay, a lot of people missed their connecting flights. We first had to go through customs and then wait in line for the clerks to find us new flights. I got lucky - the couple in front of me were traveling with their 16-month-old baby. They inquired about the Quebec City flight and were told that it was just about to leave and that they could catch it if they ran. I was on the same flight as they were, so I ran there also, but once we got to the gate, we were told the airplane had already been shut and that we couldn't get on board. So frustrating!
So back to the first desk we went. The only direct flight available to Quebec City was at 9 p.m. the next night, so I decided to request a connection in Montreal or Ottawa to get home earlier. Air Canada booked me a hotel room and paid for it, plus transportation there, and breakfast.
One of the upside of having to go through customs in Toronto was that my luggage was waiting there for me and I was able to bring it to the hotel with me. So I wheeled it out to get a taxi - and waited another half an hour in line until it was my turn to get one! The driver was not sure where the hotel I was staying at was located, so he used his GPS to get there. We drove a good 20 minutes and when we pulled in the parking lot, we ran into the couple with the baby from the airport - who were coming out of the hotel. The guy looked at me and mouthed "Not the right hotel!" So my driver followed their driver back to the right hotel. Once there, we had to wait in line at the front desk, as more people were checking in.
When I finally laid down to get some sleep, it was already 4 a.m. and I had to be up at 8 a.m. to catch the shuttle back to the airport! The lines there to check our bags were crazy long! Fortunately, the rest of the day was uneventful: the weather was great, my flights were on time, the doors were working fine and my luggage followed me home. I was exhausted when I got home, though! I crashed on my bed and fell asleep even though it was only 5 p.m.!
Je suis revenue chez moi le dimanche, non, le lundi. En fait, dimanche ET lundi. Voyez-vous, ça m'a pris deux jours et quatre avions pour revenir chez moi. J'étais supposée avoir deux transferts (à Denver et à Toronto), mais en raison des orages, nous n'avons pas pu atterrir à Toronto. Nous avons fait des cercles au-dessus de la ville pendant une heure, pour finalement aller atterrir à Buffalo pour faire le plein d'essence. La pluie nous a rejoint là-bas, alors nous avons dû attendre une heure avant de pouvoir faire le plein et repartir. Une fois rendus à Toronto, quatre heures plus tard que prévu, on nous a annoncé avec embarras que la porte automatique était coincée et qu'on ne pouvait pas entrer dans l'aéroport pour cette raison! Tout le monde est partie à rire en entendant cela, tellement la situation devenait ridicule! On a attendu un autre quinze minutes et on est finalement sortis de l'avion. L'équipage nous a remercié à maintes reprises d'être restés calme et d'avoir été compréhensifs. Bien évidemment, en raison de la température, plusieurs ont manqué leurs transferts. Nous avons donc passé les douanes, puis attendus en file que les employés nous trouvent de nouveaux vols. J'ai été chanceuse : le couple en avant de moi avait un bébé de 16 mois avec eux et quand ils sont allés s'informer pour le vol de Québec, on les a avisé qu'ils pourraient prendre leur vol s'ils se dépêchaient. Comme ils étaient sur le même vol que moi, j'ai couru également jusqu'à la porte, mais nous avons manqué l'embarquement par une fraction de seconde et ils n'ont jamais voulu nous laisser à bord. Extrêmement frustrant! Nous sommes donc retournés au premier comptoir. Le seul vol direct vers Québec qui restait était à 21 h le lendemain, alors j'ai choisi de passer par Montréal ou Ottawa pour ne pas devoir attendre toute la journée. Air Canada a réservé mon nouveau vol et une chambre d'hôtel, qu'ils ont payé, de même que le taxi pour m'y rendre et le déjeuner du lendemain. Un des avantages d'avoir eu à passer les douanes à Toronto est que j'ai pu récupérer ma valise avant de partir pour l'hôtel. Je suis retournée faire encore la file pour les taxis pendant une autre demi-heure. Le chauffeur n'était pas sûr où était situé mon hôtel, alors il a utilisé le GPS pour s'y rendre, mais une fois sur place (un bon 20 minutes plus tard), je suis tombée sur des visages familiers : le couple avec le bébé! Le gars m'a fait signe "pas le bon hôtel", alors nous avons conduit un autre vingt minutes pour retourner à la bonne place. Une fois à l'hôtel, nous avons attendu au comptoir puisque nous n'étions pas les seuls voyageurs à avoir été envoyés à cet hôtel. Je me suis finalement couchée à 4 heures du mat, pour me lever à 8 h afin de pouvoir prendre la navette pour retourner à l'aéroport. La file d'attente pour enregistrer les bagages faisait le tour de l'entrée! Heureusement, le reste de la journée s'est déroulé sans anicroche. La température était ensoleillée, les vols sont arrivés à l'heure, les portes automatiques fonctionnaient et mes bagages m'ont suivi jusqu'à bon port. J'étais épuisée en arrivant chez moi et je me suis endormie même s'il était juste 17 h!
What a week! I had so much fun, it only made me want to attend Leadership even more! I hope to see you all there!
Quelle semaine! J'ai eu une tonne de plaisir et cela m'a donné encore plus hâte au Leadership. J'espère vous y voir en grand nombre!

Toute une aventure, mais que de plaisir, ça l'air vraiment chouette.
Merci pour le récit en français, je l'ai lu un peu en anglais mais c'est encore mieux en français, même si je sais que c'est beaucoup de travail.
