As I was scanning the list of past Merry Monday challenges, I spotted Hot Beverage (#188) and knew I wanted to pull out the retired Scentsational Season stamp set, which is an old favorite of mine. As I was looking at my 6" x 6" paper stacks, I spotted a piece of paper with little drinks on it, so I selected the I Love Winter paper from Echo Park. For design, I was looking at the July card sketches from Page Maps I hadn't used yet and spotted one with a scallop edge in the center. It reminded me of the video I saw on Jennifer McGuire blog where she explains how to create a trifold card with a fancy border that locks in. I was really impressed with the result and this fun sketch was the perfect way to put this technique to good use.
I have a die in the Toppers CutUp dies from the Cat's Pajamas that mimick the shape seen on the sketch but it's not as large as a regular card, so I adapted the size so the final card is 3-1/2" x 5". Because it was a little smaller, I made my own envelope to match, out of Real Red Core'dinations cardstock. The way to get the perfect matching cut is to overlap the two ends of your card once it's folded and die-cut both layers at once. The die will go through, but it will leave nasty marks on the rest of the card, which is why I've embellished every side of the card afterwards: front, back and inside.
For the sentiment, I used the Falalalala Border die from Lawn Fawn. If you're read its name correctly, you'll see I have two "la's" missing from the card. The die-cut was wider than the card. I could have fit the whole word, but it looked prettier cut down to three and keeping the cute loop before the word. Then, when I assembled the card, I got the idea to glue the rest of the word inside. Gives it continuity and it's cute! The dainty white snowflake border at top is actually leftover punched pieces from a previous card made this weekend. I love when I find scraps on my desk that finish off a project perfectly. Some of my best ideas are found this way. I would never have thought to get out this punch for this project, but seeing the pieces on my desk made the wheels turn and sparked the idea.
