I found a beautiful inspiration picture on Splitcoast Stampers, in their monthly Christmas challenge forum. Everything about this picture is inspiring: the plaid, the gifts, the pine boughs, the classic red and green combo against the Kraft, the ribbon bow... I've drawn from pretty much all of those elements on my card. I knew exactly which papers I was going to use to make a card for this challenge. I recently got the Comfort and Joy papers and die-cuts from My Mind's Eye and they include a very nice mix of that cottage plaid that's very in right now (that black and red gingham). Some of the papers are even already glittered for us, including the plaid I used here (the white lines have glitter on them). The little gifts on the die-cut are also glittered.
The design was inspired by MFT Sketch #294, and since I'm catching up this summer on Merry Monday challenges, this is for #199 (Getting Sentimental). Speaking of, this cool font is from the Christmas Pines stamp set, all new in the upcoming Holidays catalogue. I also used the pine boughs on my background cardstock, and overstamped the frame from the set in VersaMark and heat embossed in Copper on black cardstock. It looks great against the red and makes for a more modern look than gold, since copper is currently making a comeback. A little pine bough was also die-cut using the matching Pretty Pines Thinlits. To keep with the warm and cozy theme, I placed Cherry Cobbler scalloped tulle (which we used to carry a few years ago) underneath the green cardstock, and I tied a piece of wool trim tied in a bow at the bottom. I've always been in love with that trim, but it is tricky to use because it is so bulky. Knowing that, instead of using a regular-size envelope, I made my own with the Envelope Punch Board and went for a wider size.
