I am really happy this cupcake set made it to the new catalogue. It's such a fun, versatile set that has been really popular since it first came out. By simply pairing an "old" stamp set with new supplies, you can make it feel totally new again. Here, I used the set for the DTGD challenge that called for a cup or cupcake, and paired it with the center step fold and double up challenges.
The double up challenge was about dry-embossing a cardstock with an embossing folder and then using a background stamp to add a pattern on the raised portions of the embossing. First time I tried it and I love the look! It was my first try at the center step fold as well. I initally followed the directions in the linked tutorial, but the resulting card was 5-1/2 x 5-1/2, therefore too big to fit into an envelope, so I decided to rework the pattern into something smaller. It took a little bit of tweaking, but I finally managed to make the base you see here for my card.
For the main panel, I used the Create a Cupcake stamp set and matching punch. I colored the bottom of the cupcake with markers to get the stripes and then overstamped the image in Versamark to clear-emboss it twice. I covered the top of the cupcake with White Frost shimmer paint, using a stipple brush to get a textured look. The candles were colored with markers and stamped off to get a lighter color, and then I used the markers again to add some doodled designs on them. I used one of the Designer Frames embossing folders to frame the cupcake and used the Wide Oval punch (which matches perfectly) to add some paper in the background. I added some Crumb Cake taffeta ribbon at the bottom and added a matching button held in place by some needlework floss.
The side panels were embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots folder and I added some Tango Tangerine rickrack that was die-cut with the Tasteful Trims die. On the bottom panel, I embossed the sentiment with the new Pewter embossing powder (upcoming Holidays mini) and used two Pool Party polka dot brads to hold it in place. Aren't those adorable? It's my favorite new embellishment from the cattie. As you can see, the colours are versatile enough to be matched with other shades. Here, I used some Pool Party brads to match the Baja Breeze cardstock.
