What can I say - I just have a soft spot for those mischievious little penguins! The couch in this image just begged to be paper pieced and when I saw the zigzag patterned paper in the last few scraps I had leftover from the Greenhouse Gala pack, I thought it would look moxie fab!
This was quite an extensive paper piecing job, as I needed to stamp and handcut the penguins on a separate piece of white cardstock for them to look right. (If you cut around the couch, they are not sitting on top of it but seems to be indented in it, which looks off). I also paper pieced the TV with a piece of textured cardstock and I added some patches on the front of the armrest. This is not in the initial stamp design, I just punched two circles and lined them up with my black marker, and then added pleating around them. I think it adds a nice touch!
While looking through my dies for the main image, I found some itty bitty dies and got the idea to add a frame behind the couch. I simply die-cut and embossed a piece of green patterned paper and used a marker to color all around the embossed part, creating a wooden frame. Then, I needed something small to add inside the frame, so I handcut a flower from another patterned paper and added it to the frame. The sentiment, which reads "Just a small note," is from Pommiers en fleurs, a retired hostess set.
The buttons were threaded with Espresso Baker's twine (Have you gotten yours yet? It's truly a Crafter's must!). I stamped the card's background with a polka dot stamp from the retired Polka Dot & Paisley set and I added a scallop frame die-cut with the Scallop Square clear die. I added a white border die-cut with the Icing die and covered the seam with two narrow taffeta ribbons.
