I can't believe it's already the last challenge week before the whole DT takes a break for the Holidays! With life being increasingly busy as the month of December progresses, I can't say I'm not going to need - and enjoy - the time off, but I'll be pumped and looking forward to coming back to the weekly challenges in January, so stay tuned for brand new creations in 2010!
Now, before we talk about the new year, why don't I share with you first what this week's sketch inspired me. I am still very much into making Christmas cards and I decided to use a color combo I had jotted down in my notebook recently: Rich Razzleberry, Bashful Blue and Elegant Eggplant, with a dash of Whisper White. I thought it looked very regal and would look lovely paired with snowflakes. I remembered that the Best Wishes & More set, which I received at the Orlando Regionals last year, had a snowflake that had possibly never been inked (or barely ever), so I pulled this set out, along with its matching "Let it Snow" sentiment.
To create the main panel, I stamped the snowflake with Bashful Blue ink, full force and then stamped off, and finished with the same snowflake inked in Versamark and embossed with Iridescent Ice powder (because we all know a Christmas card is always better with glitter!).
The card front was stamped with the Sanded background in Rich Razzleberry and the Medallion background in Versamark and embossed with Iridescent Ice powder. The Elegant Eggplant stripe was run through the Big Shot and dry-embossed with a Texturz plate, and I also used the Big Shot to die-cut the tag. Here's the trick to layering the tag the way I did: use the Lots of Tags die set to cut an oval tag in Whisper White and the same tag in Bashful Blue. Cut the middle of the Bashful Blue tag following the dotted line from the die to get your main oval, and then use the Wide Oval punch to punch an oval out of Rich Razzleberry cardstock, then layer all three pieces.
All of my cardstock pieces were inked with daubers before I put the card together. Finally, I embellished the card with Basic Grey corduroy buttons (perfect winter texture), punched a Scallop Border and tied a knot of white lace ribbon (leftover from last cattie).
I hope you like it! Let's just say that with the Mother of all snowstorms we got yesterday, this card feels very appropriate, as the French sentiment reads, "Ready or not, it's snowing!" haha!
