Pink and Grey Snowflakes / Flocons roses et gris

 

Usually, I would not have thought to combine black, grey and pink on a Christmas card, but since I am in Christmas mode these weeks, I thought, Why not? I think that it turned out pretty cute paired with the Serene Snowflakes set found in the current minicatalogue. I looked at sketches for inspiration and picked one from Julee Tieman on SCS and the "twist" was to make it shabby chic, so I did!

I also combined it with one more challenge (can you tell I enjoy doing challenges?) from Stampin' Addicts called Resist Inside Out (or something like that - don't quote me on that one). It's a fun new technique I hadn't tried before or even heard of: you emboss your images with clear powder, cover the whole cardstock with Whisper White Craft ink and a sponge, let the ink dry (or if you're impatient like me, use your heat gun to speed up drying process), iron out the embossing powder by placing your cardstock between two sheets of paper and tear up the edges to show the original cardstock colour. I think it looks SOO cool! It's a shame I covered most of it up, though. I think it would be a cool technique to try on a box because the inside and outside of the box would not be the same colour.

Anywho, back to the card, I used the Big Shot and a polka dot Texturz plate to dry-emboss the background, and then I sponged some White Frost shimmer paint on it to make the polka dots stand out more. I enjoyed my Champagne Mist shimmer paint so much that I added a second colour on my last order. Want to take bets on how long it'll be before I cave and order the third one? All the edges of the cardstock pieces were sponged with the same shimmer paint, for extra sparkle and shabbiness. On the pink cardstock, I stamped snowflakes in Versamark and embossed those with clear powder. Then, I added the En français background in Pretty in Pink and then covered the whole piece of cardstock with shimmer paint. The White Frost paint is translucent enough to let the background images show through, so it does create a very nice, subtle effect.

The main snowflake was stamped twice in Basic Grey: once on cardstock and once on pink Design paper, and the inside of the flake was cut out and paper pieced. The middle of the snowflake was accented with a Build-a-Brad.

For the sentiment, I wanted to follow the round shape of the white mat, but did not have any circle sentiment, so what I did was that I picked "A Soft Winter" from The More the Merrier set and inked each word one by one and used the Stamp-a-Ma-Jig to create the curve in the sentiment.

I have all those luscious new ribbons at home and could not resist adding a black striped ribbon bow, although I will admit that it would have been a better fit had the ribbon stripes been white instead of off-white, but since I was going for shabby anyway, I decided it would work. I added a bit of pink striped ribbon on top, a beautiful hat pin (if you have not invested in the Pretties kit, you really should!) and a pink button held in place with Silver cord. Three pink rhinestone brads in the corner finished the look.

This is the kind of card that will be given to someone I know won't put it in the trash the next day, needless to say...

 

 

 

Habituellement, je n'aurais pas l'idée de choisir du noir, gris et rose pour une carte des Fêtes, mais comme je suis dans les projets de Noël en ce moment, j'ai pensé à de jolis flocons roses en voyant la combinaison de couleurs suggérée cette semaine par Makeesha. J'ai donc sorti le jeu Serene Snowflakes, du minicatalogue actuel, pour faire ma carte. 

J'ai ensuite sélectionné un sketch de Julie Tieman publié sur SCS et les instructions indicaient que le défi supplémentaire était d'incorporer le style Shabby Chic au sketch, ce que j'ai fait. Je me suis aussi inspiré d'un défi supplémentaire (oui, je suis une maniaque de défis, j'en concède) sur Stampin' Addicts, qui portait sur une techniqeu dont je n'avais jamais entendu, la Résistance inversée. Le principe est simple : il suffit d'embosser des imges avec de la poudre claire sur un papier cartonné foncé, de le couvrir entièrement d'encre Murmure blanc à l'éponge, de laisser sécher (ou si vous êtes impatientes comme moi, d'accélérer le processus avec le fer à embosser), d'enlever la poudre à embosser en repassant le papier cartonné entre deux feuilles brouillon, puis de déchirer les côtés du papier cartonné pour révéler la couleur d'origine. Le résultat est vraiment très joli! C'est presque dommage que j'ai autant caché mon carton avec le ruban. Je crois que ça serait une technique intéressante à utiliser sur une boîte parce que l'intérieur ne serait pas de la même couleur que l'extérieur.

J'ai embossé la base de la carte avec la Big Shot et une plaque Texturz à pois, puis j'ai épongé de la peinture chatoyante Blanc de givre sur les pois pour les faire ressortir. J'ai tellement aimé ma peinture Brume de champagne que je me suis décidée à acheter une seconde couleur. Et les paris sont ouverts à savoir combien de temps je résisterai avant d'acheter la troisième... Les côtés de tous les papiers cartonnés sont été épongés avec cette même peinture. J'ai étampé et embossé des flocons sur le papier cartonné rose, puis j'ai étampé l'arrière-fond En français en Joli rose, avant d'éponger toute la surface du papier cartonné avec la peinture chatoyante. La peinture Blanc de givre est suffisamment translucide pour que la couleur et les motifs de l'arrière-fond transparaissent.

Le gros flocon a été étampé à deux reprises en Simplement gris : sur un papier cartonné de même couleur et sur du papier à motifs Joli rose, et l'intérieur des branches a été découpé dans le papier rose et collé sur l'image. Le centre a été orné d'un Build-a-Brad.

Pour le souhait, je voulais qu'il suive la forme du cercle, mais comme je n'avais pas de souhaits déjà courbés, j'ai tout simplement choisi le souhait « Un hiver tout doux » de l'ensemble Plus on est de fous, plus on rit (hôtesse Palier 3) et j'ai encré les mots un à un au marqueur et les ai étampés avec le Stap-a-Ma-Jig pour suivre la courbe.

Maintenant que j'ai reçu les nouveaux rubans rayés, je voulais absolument m'en servir sur ma carte, alors j'ai créé une boucle que j'ai décorée d'une magnfiique épingle à chapeau (si vous n'avez pas déjà la trousse Croquignolettes, il vous la faut absolument!) et d'un bouton rose tenu en place avec de la ficelle Argent. Trois attaches parisienne de fantaisie ont été ajoutées dans le coin pour compléter le tout.

Il va sans dire que c'est le genre de carte que j'offrirai à quelqu'un qui ne la balancera pas dans la Filière le jour suivant...
